Framac,
Completely understand, I appreciate the heads up as I was obviously misinformed! At least it sort of justifies my "chicken math" about getting 18 chickens lol.. We knew that there would be predator issues given where we live, I had just wished it didn't happen so soon! A hard lesson...
Framac, I was under the impression that if they threatened livlihood that was different. Sadly, I see i was misinformed. Tented deer netting sounds promising... I still wouldn't mind shooting them but if it's against the law, well, I am law abiding so I'll follow. I suppose I'm just angry and...
Good Morning Everyone!
Been a bit of a lurker lately but I had some questions for some of our CNY peeps. I had a hawk attack. I lost one of my two EE's and I'm nursing a Red back to health - she had a smaller puncture on her side, has trouble walking but she's eating and drinking and standing...
Ok, I'm just wondering if anyone else has chickens that lay on their sides? I have two Red links that instead of fluffing up and setting their tooshies on the ground they lean to their side and lay/ "lounge". They walk and eat fine, show no signs of any pain and I've poked and prodded to see...
Probably too difficult to tell breed yes? I was thinking OEGB but i could be off. *sigh* at least its looking like only one roo... of course he's going to be the smallest other than his sissy as we only have 2 bantams, should be humerous with 17 ladies and one "man" lol...
So this is Choco... my youngest son's Bantam from the Bantam bin. Have no clue on the breed but I'm thinking at about 4 weeks old this little guy is, well, a GUY Any agreement out there? I'm just lookin at that nicely RED looking comb... and his little wattles are coming in reddish already...
As I live in WAY Upstate, NY we do metal roofing, one it's inexpensive, and two, the snow just slides right off. But keep in mind there are years we can get 9 FEET of snow over two to three days
Ok, I'm converting the back part of a VERY small house on our property to a coop and will have an open door with a ramp going up. Closes, locks all that happy stuff. If a critter can get in then they probably deserve a chicken dinner kind of coop. Do I NEED a little chicken door? I'm curious...
I had the same thing happen, which was just me not knowing. My "Ameraucana's" are most definitely EE's :) But I'm not worried, they're sweet little chickies that'll add variety to my eggs. That's all I really wanted anyway!
Ok so go this beautiful little girl from our local farm store... said it was an ameracauna. I've seen a lot of EE's posed as Ameracauna so I'm wondering from the experts if she really is. Meet Scruffy... her sister is Nerfherder She has fluffy cheeks and her feet are an orangey yellow. She...
Well a Tupperware tub from walmart works well, or do as we did and use a really big cardboard box :) Of course we have 18 fuzzy butts. There's tons of strings with all different methods and they all seem to work. Oh and beware chicken math... my 6 = 18 lol....
Brooder, heat, water, food...
