2 of my girls laid their first eggs!!!

It only took my girls a few days to get adjusted to being here and 2 of them laid an egg today!!!! I think one is from the older barred rock that we call 'Big Momma'. And I think one is from one of the RIR's. Very exciting! Here are 2 pics of the same 2 eggs.

Beautiful birds. I really like the gray ones in the last pic. Robin Hood is very handsome too.

    I got my girls today!!!!!

Quote: Thank you! Yes, it is very exciting. I still have a few things to do and get for them. But it is all enjoyable. They are so hypnotizing. My family and I will go out to look at them and everyone just stares at them in a sort of amazement. They are really neat creatures.

I finally started on my coop!!!

Quote: That would be cool! What is DE? Diamataceous Earth, Not sure if I have the spelling correct. But it helps kill mites and lice on the birds, you want the edible kind, just in case. OK. Thanks. I will try to find some of that DE. Thanks!

I finally started on my coop!!!

Quote: I did think about doing that. But I didn't want to cut holes in the chain link. So I decided to elevate it so they will be able to go underneath the coop too.

I finally started on my coop!!!

I started on my coop and run today. I moved the run (dog kennel) where it will be for the chickens. And I framed up the coop. I still have to put siding on the coop and fix up the inside a little. But it won't be long now!!!!! The coop is 4'x4' and it is 4' tall in the front and 2' tall in...

Coop / Run square footage question.

I think I will be starting out with only 4 or 5 egg laying hens. It seems by what you all have posted that they will have more than enough room. This sets my mind at ease.
