It only took my girls a few days to get adjusted to being here and 2 of them laid an egg today!!!!
I think one is from the older barred rock that we call 'Big Momma'. And I think one is from one of the RIR's.
Very exciting!
Here are 2 pics of the same 2 eggs.

Thank you! Yes, it is very exciting. I still have a few things to do and get for them. But it is all enjoyable. They are so hypnotizing. My family and I will go out to look at them and everyone just stares at them in a sort of amazement. They are really neat creatures.
I finally got the chickens that I have been wanting. I got 2 RIR hens, and 2 barred rock hens. The breeder told me the 2 RIR and 1 of the BR are about 7 months old and the other BR is about 2 years old. They are all very sweet birds and don't mind being held, I actually think they like it...

The coop is 4'x4' and it is 4' tall in the front and 2' tall in...
I think I will be starting out with only 4 or 5 egg laying hens. It seems by what you all have posted that they will have more than enough room. This sets my mind at ease.
First I would like to introduce myself. My name is Casey (a guy), I am from NW Florida. I grew up with horses, goats and chickens. But I am in my thirties now and haven't been around "farm" life for a while. I am wanting to get some egg laying, possible meat, chickens. I want to make their...
