I am happy someone brought this up. My run was so muddy this morning that i let my hens free range all day. It was way too muddy to leave them in there while i was at work like i usually do! I have a cover over my run but the rain has been terrible and soaked the run turning it into stinky mud...

One of my rir hens is not behaving as usual. I only have two and they are usually neck n neck but i noticed this morning one of them would just lay around and didnt want to move unless i approached her. When she would get up and move i noticed she would favor one wing as she layed back down...
I have been raising mine in an uninsulated workshop. I have a clip on work light with a heat lamp bulb over the brooder that i raise and lower to keep them at a warm temp at night.

hey sarah.....my chics do the same thing. i have 3 barred rock,2 americaunas and 2 rir pullets all 3-5 weeks old. they run to the opposite side of the brooder when i try to feed n water them. i try to handle them as much as i can but they havnt calmed down yet.
my tractor has been in the same spot for about 3 or 4 evenings. My flock is 8 strong (3-5weeks old)and i already think its time to move! I only put them in the tractor for a few hours in the evening.
thanks hechicken.....i didnt think about sealing the plywood i will throw a coat or two on before i put the shavings. worked on it some more this evening, just have to build my door and shutters for the windows! what do u think about the auto opening doors?
worked on the new coop this evening. decided to lower my nest box and put a full plywood floor in to keep the chics dry. was goin to leave part of it dirt floor but after the rain we've been having changed my mind. does everyone use pine shavings for their bedding/litter? Also is 3 nest boxes...
