thank you very much for your reply!
i soaked it last night and picked at it, and managed to get the kernel (?) out. i stuffed it with some antibiotic but i was unable to wrap it. i'll wash her feet again tonight, reapply ointment, and see if i can get her to sit still long enough to bandage it.
how old is the chick? do you have any pictures?
if it's older than one week, it'll take time for it's toes to get back into place. what you need to do is bend the toes and foot into their proper place, put cardboard at the bottom to make a snowshoe, and either tape it or vetwrap it on tight so...
Hello all,
My gosling (yes, i know, not a chicken, but i thought i'd get more replies here) appears to have bumblefoot on both of the pads of her feet. I just happened to notice it when I picked her up today. I assume it happened when I took her outside to play around my concrete porch. I'm...
Hello,
This morning I noticed that one of our two goslings was flailing around in its cage like it was having a seizure. I originally assumed he was choking since he was acting just fine this morning, but I couldn't find anything lodged in his throat. He died after about 10-20 minutes, and I'm...
Hello,
I'm in search of some high quality sebright eggs to begin my own flock. I've tried before with about 18 eggs, and ended up with only one (a rooster with a crossbeak!). I've since improved on incubating and I'm hoping to try again.
I would like a few birds of each color (golden...
thank you very much, i might just do that! sorry for being snippy. i felt your previous response was rude, and so i got defensive. i'll talk with our friend and see if he wants his bird to care for another batch for a couple of weeks. :-)
i have handfed parrots before, just not from day one. :----) i was just hoping for a few tips so i don't kill the chick right after it hatches. i know what kind of stressful situation i'm going to get myself into, thanks.
I'm getting some cockatiel eggs from a friend of the family in a few weeks to stick in my incubator, and I'm a wondering about some things when incubating and feeding them.
What's the proper humidity for the first 18 days? Can I do a dry hatch like chickens?
How many times a day does the baby...
the main difference between the japanese bantam and serama is their stance. true seramas will have a very tall, prideful, puffed out chest look to them like they're tiny little lions. japanese bantams will have the same droopy wings that seramas have, but they walk like regular chickens...
they might pip at the wrong end, which isn't fatal as long as you help if they internally pip or haven't hatched after 48 hours. candle them and see where the air cell is located. if it's on the round end, then no worries!
mypetchicken has a 'classroom pack' of eggs that include larger, run of the mill breeds such as rhode island reds and barred rocks, but it's fairly pricey. a cheaper option is their other assortment...
