I’ve been out of the chicken game for a few years now when I sold my land and home a few years ago and temporarily moved to the city while on the hunt for some bigger better property.
We closed on our new place about 6 months ago (10 acres) and it was beautiful but the previous owner had not...
I tilted it slightly towards the end
I used a 2" hole saw. And the cardboard is to keep the feed from flowing out over the holes.
Watch the video i posted up there ^. And it explains it perfectly
Here's a good video on YouTube. I made my barrier out of cardboard I glued to the inside of the feeder pipe. The elbow I had has a lip that won't allow the pipe to go that far down like the video.
After going thru different designs I've seen on this great site. I decided to make my own with a couple ideas from others.
I got 4" thin wall pipe with a 90 and two caps. Glued a piece of cardboard inside the upright pipe that holds the feed about 1/2 inside the "feeder" pipe so it would only...
I get all my chickens from the same breeder. They are 10 weeks old now.
Started with barred rocks then got 2 more gsl.
2 br's and 1 gsl got killed so we now have
2 gsl
2 brown leghorns
And 2 Dominique's
She was out of the barred so we decided to mix it up lol
Well after debating closed run or not I decided I was more worried about keeping them in there "place". It's not hawk proof but we haven't had a lot of problems with hawks. They can also hide under or in their coop. They have ample shade. Let me know what you think
I ran the same fencing we...
I have been free ranging my chickens as I live on 200 acres. The one acre around my house is fenced in with this
Which the chickens cannot get thru except in a couple spots which I am going to fix.
I was thinking of building them a smaller fenced in area(run) using the existing corner of my...
Thank you for the advice. I guess I will just bite the bullet and make them a true run. All of your reasons make perfect since. I am a first time chicken owner, I know they will still be happy outside in the run, but I just wanted to see of I could make the free ranging work.
I will still...
I recently had my first ever attack. Something got 4 of my 6 chickens that I free ranged so I am going to do what I said I wasn't and make them a so called run.
I live on 200 acres but my house on one acre fenced in with small gap welded wire. The problem is the 9 week olds that I have and am...
Yep after doing some searching I found some feathers of both colors ******. I wanted to free range but that looks like it's not going to be an option. To bad they are out of the br's luckily the place I get them still have some options of the same age as mine.
Crazy I was only not outside...
I have 3 br's and 3 gsl that free range every day. I have had them since they were around 4 weeks. They are now almost 9. Since they've grown they wonder farther and farther from the coop(I live on 200 acres). They like to go in an area behind the coop that is outside the fence and heavily...
So I got 4 barred rocks and 2 gsl they are all 8 weeks. I recently found out that 1 of the br's was a roo so today I called the breeder and exchanged it for a gsl of the same age. All these birds were raised together.
So I get the new gsl home and let her out to free range with the other 5...
