Hello! My name is Kathy, but some of you know me as "Kat" (which is my childhood nickname). I'm a relatively new poultry hobbyist in Maryland, acquiring my first silkies in the fall of 2008. After over 20 years of keeping and raising parrots and tortoises, I got into poultry purely by accident...

Ok, there are no pics of this hen's father - but yes, the eggs this hen came from were supposed to be from a white pen. I was able to view photos of 3 of her sons (but I'm having trouble lifting them from a FB album to post here). They appear to be a cuckoo, a white and a white with...

I honestly don't know - she just came to me recently. The person I got her from isn't real familiar with colors and patterns, but she said she hatched this hen from eggs that were supposed to be from a white pen (I think she said she got the eggs on eBay). I can find out if she has...

It was a no go for me. 2 made it to lockdown, 1 never pipped, 1 hatched unassisted - it looked great for 48 hours, but died on the third morning.
I'm fairly certain the light skin/wattles/comb are from the barring gene, and I'm told the offspring had it too. But no, only males can have two barred genes, females can only have one. Something else is going on here - I just don't know what it is!
Hi all -
I've got another silkie whose color I can't identify.
This girl hatched from a batch of eggs that were supposed to be WHITE silkies, but she *appears* to be a creamy khaki color. Her skin is white, her eyes are gold, and her comb and what little wattles she has are red. She...

Coulda been dad, no mice that I'm aware of. I'm glad to hear the parents will come around - after 2 years of trying to gain their trust, I had finally made some progress, and their resentment has been pretty disappointing!!! They hide from me now, and if I go looking for them, they...
Aubrey!!!! My mandarins had babies!!!
21 eggs, 20 fertile, 20 hatched, 18 lived - seems that mom found a reason to scalp 2 of them - it was awful - why would she do this???? I was watching the boxes like a hawk that last week, and picked them up as they were hatching - first clutch hatched...
I've got mandarin ducklings available, if you'll be in the Maryland area anytime soon? See my BYC ad here:

There are different kinds of breeders......
Whether you call it "making money", "making a living", "having a hobby that pays for itself", or whatever, I don't see anything wrong with it, just as long as its done properly and the animals are well cared for. But I have YET to come...
PLEASE DO NOT CLICK BUY IT NOW!!!! Just PM me instead - I'd like this ad to stay up for the entire week!
I have two separate clutches of mandarin ducklings available - the first hatched on May 25th, and the second on May 27th. All ducklings are eating, drinking, lively and cute as can be...
