This is Olivia, and Carly. I recently was very generously given these two LOVELY Easter Eggers from a friend in N. KY. They are very attached to each other. Where Carly goes, Olivia is very close behind. They roost together, eat together, and if you pay attention to one, you better believe the...
Did you ever get your flock more then a few feet from the run? lol Non of mine really will, well my two easter egger I find them in strang spots..... Like trees
The little lady of the house came in my room today, frantic thing we bought a chicken. I grabbed the 12 gauge and headed outside. only to find a feral dog had made off with two of my flock. my two favorite Cochins. one was my absolute favorite every time I went in to the run he would wiggle his...
Ok so *sigh* today is the first time I have let my flock out of the safty of the run, so they can run around in the yard.... I opend up the door to the run andJust stood there. My 4 Cornish-x's just looking at me as if to say... "Really? We can go out there?" the other four of the flock havn't...
My friend you by the sound have a Coon issue. Raccoons are well known to reach in coops pull off legs or heads, or if they can get them out they from some odd reason only eat the head and crop... Well most of the time. No feather would indicate it's not an owl. Seeing as you are outside so much...
Out of what you have narrowed it down to I would say the American Chinchilla. They are the best for met. Honestly I would have to recomend the Californian or New Zealand, but out the three the AC's are the best meat wise. I really haven't the blue for meat, and the silver foxs ok. but for my...
Depending on just how bad it is. Antibotic ointment like Neosporin. Just make sure it does NOT have Lidocaine, or Benzocaine in it. What was it attacked by? Good luck let me know if she turns out ok.
Well normaly you only have to use chick starter for around 6-8 weeks anyway, should be fine to my knowlage, I use crushed corn and seeds myself as a treat or scratch. Also you can buy "chicken blocks" that are pressed blocks of food they can peck at that have most if not all of the listed things...
I am actualy not to far from there. I am out in a rural area, but AS FAR AS I know there are not STATE laws. I would contact the local DNR or Sheriff Depts. - Good luck from SE Indiana
As long as it's not too deep or causeing any issues I wouldn't worry to much. If you REALLY wanted to be on the safe side maybe rap it but I think that may be a bit over kill. Just make sure the kind you are useing does not have any of the pain relive meds in it. Lidocaine, or Benzocaine, really...
To be honest you will never know, but she does. Chickens seem to be able to tell if there is something wrong with the egg. Its not going to make it for whatever reason etc. and she will simply push it aside. Mommy knows best trust me I have always left it to my girls to do their job and it has...
Non I can think of AS LONG AS you leave a heatlamp out (if needed) make sure the fenceing it tight enough they can't squeeze out, and make sure they have shelter from preditors. Most certiantly the hawk being they are so small.
Just me maybe but I use sand in the coop. It cools off very well, at night easy to clean, and if shaded stays rather cool. I am sure you can find an artical or two about it on here.
I normaly do it everyday, but maybe that is just me. I wash them 1-2 times a week and disenfect them. I don't see an issue though as long as it's not cloudy, getting that fun slim coat, full of bedding food etc.
Hoosierclucker. Well I would have to take it you are a fellow hoosier. Well met, and hello from SE Indiana. Welcomeing to the world of poultering.
As far as "pasty butt" like you said as long as their vents are not covered your ok. I don't really know if this has to do with feathering or not...
