well it deff sounds interesting about the marans.....but I looked it up and they are selling chicks for $18 a pc.....that is INSANITY!!! deff looking for something more cost effective.....
so I am at a crossroads with where I want to go with my farm...I have had all types of egg birds and tried meat birds but didn't have much better results...(i tried jersey giants and heritage RIR) all the hes are small and the roos were stringy....i have a HUGE white rock roo and was going to go...
yep....thats what my babies look like now.....so what if they dont turn colors.....last yrs still does not have any color.....do the white ones carry more value then the colored ones....I would not think so but again...what do I know....
ok......so I live in south louisiana.....as in many prev mentioned scenarios my peahen was also lost in the breeding season due to free range situations.....my only up side is not only was I able to salvage 4 of the 5 eggs.....but we have a lone survivor from sept last yr but since "it" is all...
I have 10 turkey and 2 doz chicken eggs that are WAY overdue in my lil giant still air bator....I candleded them at 14 days and all was good.....event went so far as to water candel them day before yesterday....they are in my laundry room away from drafts ect...and today is WEDS they were DUE...
we are not new to processing our birds but Im not an old hand either....and I have a question....my birds are free range mostly I penned up the birds (1 turkey and 3 roos) that we processed and there were these lil bugs on them in the feathers....not lice cause you could rub them and squish...
ok....I have raised chickens for the better part of 8 years and I have NEVER seen what I saw this morning....we had a HUGE egg....now we have had huge eggs before that were double and triple yolkers......but I have never had an egg inside of another egg....the inner one was soft shell...
I have one that was born labor day....and it was showing off today to mom.....does that mean anything.....its white so color wont help...
thank you in advance..
ok.....well if that is the case then I need some MAJOR advise!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a pea that was born sept 1st and when it was born it was totally yellow.....we are now 9 weeks later and it has NO COLOR at all still yellow/white.......does that mean it is going to be white???
this is what my hen looks like....
my male looks like this....
their baby was born labor day and was solid yellow...and is now white....at what age will they start to show what color they will be?
