    What's the prettiest rooster?

Have I opened a can of worms? :P What's your favorite chicken breed as far as the roos go? Some are downright gorgeous, but I can never remember what breeds they are. (I wasn't sure where to put this thread--sorry if I'm in the wrong place.)

My chickens have started spilling their feed frequently. What do I do?

We had the same problem. I don't know if the hens were just playing in the food or if the multitude of finches we're attracting had something to do with it, but there was food -everywhere-. We ended up ditching the gravity feeder for a little trough about three or four feet wide (we have six...

    My hens

Hi! :D What breed(s) do you have? I have a little flock of RIRs and they are the sweetest pets. <3

What did your chickens do today?

Hahaha, don't get between a chicken and its treats... ;)

What did your chickens do today?

    1. The chickens received nice juicy mango pits today and lost their tiny minds. 2. I received my first injury-by-chicken today. These facts are 100% related.

What did your chickens do today?

A board for my butt! XD Just a scrap of plywood I take into the coop with me so I can sit on something (relatively) clean. :P

What did your chickens do today?

Glad to be of service! -salutes- Today was a lot more chill. It was unseasonably and gloriously cool--nice breeze and everything--so I hung out with the girls. Dragged my buttboard in, tucked my knees up, and let Sassy perch on my arm. We just sat there together for a while, facing into the...

    Favorite thing YOUR chickens do!

I love the Ugly Butterfly Maneuver, when I pick them up and they don't want to be up. Wings out, head down, and paddling. :P I love the way they'll mill around me impatiently until I sit down and then can get up on my lap. Oh, and the way the insist upon wiping their beaks on me. (I choose to...

What did your chickens do today?

Well, I should've mentioned that scorps here are only very slightly poisonous. I've been stung by three and I'm still kickin', but I don't know if a little chicken body could fight it off. Might have been what killed Ethel One, so I didn't want to take any chances. I'm just glad it was dead...

What did your chickens do today?

Let me set this up: so I'm moving one of my chooks' waterers to a shadier spot. I hand it to my mom out the kennel door so she can refill it, then grab the cinder block we put the waterer on. Lo and behold! Beetles! Naturally, I immediately say "Hey girls! Lookit!" and they start pecking...

What religion do you belong to?

Atheist-ish. I'm very into the Buddhist philosophy, but I don't really adhere to anything organized.

    Silly Molting Question

When a chicken molts, will the new feathers grow in with the exact same patterns as the old? One of my hens has one little half-black feather on her shoulder and it's the only way I can tell her apart. :P You think it'll still be there after she molts?

Why are my girls suddenly squatting and stomping their feet when I reach for them?

So that's why they do that! I thought they just didn't like the sudden movement when I bent down to pet them too fast. :P

What did your chickens do today?

My neurotic little Five let me pick her up, scoop her to my chest, and cuddle her a bit. The whole time she made this dorky little noise that sounded like a cross between a squeak toy and a goose.

    Lost a Chicken Today :(

She was a seven-month-old RIR. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out and keep an eye on the rest of the flock. :)

    Lost a Chicken Today :(

Ethel's gone. -sigh- We found her all cold and crumpled underneath the nest boxes. She wasn't sick or... y'know, eaten... so it must have been a scorpion--which is still kind of surprising considering I've been stung by three to no ill effect, but a little chicken body must be too small to...

What did your chickens do today?

I was checking the nest boxes today and Sassy took a giant leap, latched onto my hip, literally climbed up my body and settled in on my arm (her favorite roost) after much wobbling and flapping. I swear she thinks she's a parrot. :P
