I had a two day old chick (had a tough start) that suddenly started hobbling around on curled feet then died the next day. Today I found a second chick laying on its side, legs stiff and straight, moving and peeping occasionally, but not opening its eyes or able to stand.
They have been on...
Hello,
I have a two day old chick that started out with normal feet. This evening I noticed that his toes are curled under and in. He is hobbling around like that now.
Background: During hatching, this chick needed help. It had zipped around the egg when the incubator malfunctioned and I...
Hi all,
I know a lot of people ask about moving their chicks outdoors, but if there were posts addressing Frizzle chicks I missed them.
I have four 10 week old chicks. One of these is a curly feathered Frizzle Bantam Cochin. She/he is nearly completely feathered, but I do still see minimal...
Thanks everyone!
The pellets were half the price of the shavings at my local feed store so I did get them, but wanted to make sure they were okay to use.
Has anyone used pellets on the brooder floor? The lady at the feed store recommended them over shavings. Are they okay for the chicks to walk around on? The chicks are 3 days old. Thanks.
Thank you Egghead_Jr and LadyCluck77. The membrane is still white so I will wait patiently. :)
I have four pipped so far and lots of peeping in the incubator!
Question for those with more experience - I have one chick who has broken off pieces of the egg shell, but it looks like the inner membrane is still intact. Is that normal? Shouldn't she have broke through the membrane first? Thanks!
Hi,

Thanks!
Thank you for the reply!
I picked the eggs up at a local farm. This egg is from a mixed flock of: Bantam Frizzle Cochins, Smooth Bantam Cochins, Silkies, a Mottled Houdan, and a Spangled Russian Orloff. I uploaded a photo taken during candling on day 14. The middle section is darker looking in...
Hello,
I was hoping that someone with more candling experience could tell me why a chicken egg I've incubated looks the way it does.
It's day 14 and at candling I noted the air cell in the large end of the egg. However, there is what looks like an air cell in the pointy end as well. The...
Hi,
We have set our eggs and would like to participate in the Easter Hatch-a-long. 15 eggs total - 3 from an Ameraucana flock and 12 from a mixed flock of Silkies and Frizzles.
