    sick rir...went down overnight...help

Definitely was her egg. She's the only one I have that lays big brown eggs. Temps have been in the 30s at night and in the 60s during the day. They are in a coop with a heat lamp and they go out a few hours a day. I put her in a small coop by herself with thick shavings and all the food and...

    sick rir...went down overnight...help

We have a rir we adopted. Don't know her age. Was told she was young, but was laying big beautiful eggs when we got her. One every day. Got her in October. She stopped laying about 2 weeks ago. Was doing fine then this morning found her with an egg, but was extremely lethargic and eyes closed...

    Silkie: sick or broody?

I found one of the big boys a home today...the one that was causing all the ruckus. Thinking things would get better. Tonight the other big one we weren't sure was a rooster started trying to breed a different hen. Guess I need to find him a home now! I hate I'm having to get rid of all my nice...

    Silkie: sick or broody?

My silkie, who we originally thought was a boy, was the first to start laying. She's been at it for about 2 weeks, 1 egg per day, joined by 1 other hen also once a day. One large mutt we thought was a hen, since started crowing and aggressively breeding, mainly her. My silkie has always been...

    Snakes Kill Chickens!

3 nights ago I went out after dark to check on my chicks ranging from probably 6-15 weeks. Found a 5 ft rat snake with my beautiful 12 week old Cochin being eaten. Head and neck down. So glad I didn't send my daughter out like I normally do. I ran for my husband and the gun. When the snake saw...

    Help again!!!

Well, we took the 4 possible roosters to the farmer so he could look and tell us what he thought and he really thinks all but one are hens. I can handle 1 rooster, but I'm still skeptical! Guess we will wait and see!

    Help again!!!

We have 10 chicks total...1 silkie, 1 old english, 1 bantum, and 1 RIR that I'm almost positive are roosters. Super sweet, but are looking and chest bumping like roosters. The others are very henish looking right now anyway. My daughter doesn't want to return them to the farmer because he...

    Help again!!!

Knock on wood they are all doing good. Gave Tylan in water and cleaned with oxine. Yesterday one was wheezing, but seems fine other than that. Still praying. We have grown so attached to them. We have also discovered we have 4 roosters. Not sure what to do about that either. They are all so...

    Help again!!!

Returned the sick "sneezing" chick and 1 other that was making similar noises. The farmer gave me 5 more chicks. Now another one of them is "sneezing/wheezing and open mouth breathing". Started last night and this morning is worse. They are already on tetracycline in there water. Have been...

    Hoping for good news!

Vomiting, diarrhea, fever are all symptoms of salmonella. That's what we have. All the chicks I have now seem fine. It was just that one I returned that looked awful. Hoping we get over this and the baby doesn't get it and my chicks stay healthy!

    Hoping for good news!

Hello everyone! Yep, I'm a new chicken mama. In fact, I now own 10 of the most adorable chicks ever (yes, I've fallen for them)! I spent 5 weeks building an awesome coop and preparing for their arrival. We went to a local farm on Monday and picked up 8 of our new babies. I noticed on the ride...
