What did you do in the garden today?

I got my onion sets in the ground a couple of days ago. I have a lot of carrots in the in ground garden from a carrot that I let go to seed. I pulled a couple a few days ago to see if they were ready yet, but they are not. The rabbits enjoyed what I pulled up. I currently have walking onions...

    Preserving Your Harvest

I made wild Violet jelly yesterday! Waiting for the redbud trees to bloom so I can make some redbud jelly too. Have stated half heartedly looking for morels but haven't seen any yet. However, a friend that lives about 30 to 45 minutes away found a small one a couple of days ago. In my raised...

What did you do in the garden today?

Now we have Covid. 🤣 I’m pretty sure the 5 month old brought it home from daycare 😞. I tried to convince my daughter not to send him until he is over a year old. But she and her husband get to make the decisions. He only goes 2 days a week. He tested positive a week ago today. My daughter...

What did you do in the garden today?

This is what my chicken yards look like after the water pipe repair. The water company told me how I could check my daily usage. On the day the pipe broke I “used” over 21,000 gallons of water. Compared to 200 to 300 gallons on an average day. No wonder my yard is a mud pit. Plus we have a lot...

What did you do in the garden today?

We have our water pipe replaced !! So glad to have flushing toilets and running water !! My chicken yard is a mud pit now. @WthrLady I believe that they are required to bury the pipes 10’ deep but I was told that a lot of plumbers go deeper than that. Often 12ft deep

What did you do in the garden today?

If the egg isn’t disgustingly dirty and if I know they’ve just cracked and frozen the 1 time, then I’ll use them. Otherwise I’d rather not take the risk.

What did you do in the garden today?

A plumber came by late this afternoon. $2,200 to just repair part of the line or $5,000 to replace the entire line all the way down to the meter ( over 300 ft through the woods). I’m going with replacing the entire thing because I don’t want to have to do this again in a few months/years. He...

What did you do in the garden today?

Ugggh! When you have to call the plumber back because he didn’t call back ( in the time frame he said he would ) and then he wants to know when do you want to get this fixed?? We are a family of 7 living with no water!!!! Including 3 boys ages 6, 9 & 12. We want it fixed right away!! 😳 On...

What did you do in the garden today?

Nothing in the garden way too cold for that. Last night we had a water pipe break in our yard. Had to call the water department around 12:30am to come shut the water off. That is all ice on the ground from the water break. 😞 I’m not even sure how it got over there. The leak I saw was up by the...

What did you do in the garden today?

Drying more dill in the dehydrator. We got snow Friday night. 1.95”. All melted in 2 days. Roads stayed clear, just wet so that was nice. Might be getting more snow tonight. Not sure if the weather folks have decided on exactly what areas will get hit. Next week we have 3 days where the high...

What did you do in the garden today?

I got a dehydrator for Christmas. My daughter’s herbs in the areogarden are growing like crazy. When I dehydrate the trimmings should I do each herb individually or do them all at once? Dill. Curly parsley, basil, mint, thyme and Thai basil. Also I’d like to try to make some deer jerky. Does...

What did you do in the garden today?

Merry Christmas Eve to all who celebrate and have a great day to all who don’t celebrate. Super warm here for this time of year. I took the 3 grandkids and my son to the park so they could fish, ride bikes and shoot hoops. They didn’t catch anything but it got them out of the house for 2 hours...

What did you do in the garden today?

So for those of you that have made pumpkin pies and then frozen them, do you bake them first and then let them cook before freezing? Do you just put it all together but don’t bake and then freexe? What’s the best way that you have found to package them for the freezer? Thanks. 😊 I was going...
