What did you do in the garden today?

70 today. Spring weather. Vultures are back. Mums are up and daffodils are popping up. Today I got a free trio of Dutch rabbits. I think I will go to the sale barn Friday and try to get different buck of another breed. Grow some meat rabbits.

I ordered a lemon verbena start... I can't decide if I want to put it in a container and bring it indoors in the winter... Or if I want to try to put it in the ground. I've been Zone 7B forever... Now I've been rezoned to 8. I don't trust that.... Lemon Verbena can overwinter outdoors in Zone 8-10.

Hmmm.... I'm leaning towards the container although I REALLY have very little room to add another plant in the sunroom in the winter.

Beautiful day out today!! I pulled some weed greens and threw them into the chicken yard. I'm still trying to find some chicks at the local feed stores ( there are 3 near us). So far they have all been sold out. One told me they will be getting some ducks on Wednesday, but I don't want to mess with ducks. I'll keep looking. Or else I'll put more in the incubator and hope for the best.

85 degrees today, snow expected Saturday -
SLOWLY working towards getting work done outside.
Crazy how fast chicks are going at the stores.
Sad people don't realize how MUCH those eggs they'll be getting will actually cost per dozen. - Makes me chuckle -quietly, of course.

Costco finally had some in stock today - eggs that is.
And then I came home to 8 in the roll-a-way nest box. Because, of course....

I have an incubator ready, but what I don't want is to have to get rid of roos. Sigh.

I hate butchering roos... We do it once a year though and I pressure can the meat. It helps a little that we are at least feeding our family so it's not going to waste but I feel like such a terrible person in the moment.

I looked at the huge pile of compost I still have to sift. I looked at the garden beds that need turning. Then I came inside and made myself a cake, lol. White with custard filling and dark chocolate frosting. Because I deserve a day off from all the hard work, and something yummy too. (I'll work extra hard tomorrow)

I would love to have a rooster just because egg prices have caused everyone in the state to decide to raise chickens.
