Actually the situation has not gotten better. I kept him isolated until the wound had healed up, and there was no blood, but every time I try to reintroduce him, they seem ok for a while, and when I turn my back, they literaly go for him. And they keep going for his poor comb. I am unsure what...
They are all the same age, 6 months old and have been raised together. He crows, and was mating them before they turned on him, and he WAS at some point top of the ladder. We have 5 hens, and 1 Roo (got them straight run, but couldnt bear to part with him) So this is just so out of the blue...
Hey guys, my hens have suddenly turned on the resident Roo, and his comb is in sorry shape. I have it on the mend, and kept him seperated for a few days but every time I try to re-introduce him back to the flock they go straight for him again. I am unsure of what to do. As far as his comb goes...
Yes, this was her very first. I was worried about the soft egg, having no shell, and her eating it. This is my first flock, so a bit of a nervous parent lol
So finally, she went out of her coop tonight, in the yard and laid an egg. It seemed to have a sac on it? It was soft shelled, she reached around, chewed the sac off and the egg dropped to the ground. It was a soft egg, she ate it asap. Is this normal? If not what should I do?
Guys, hoping for some help, I had issues with my 20 week old sex link hen yesterday. She was in her nesting box a total of 15 or so hours. Finally came out this morning, but went right back in and stayed there all day. I have checked on her throughout the day, and I had just decided she was fine...
Hoping for some help, I am a worried momma "hen".. my sweet girl is a 20ish week old Sex link, she has been sitting in her nesting box literally all day.. she came out once, this evening when I opened the gate to let them free range a bit, but came back to the coop after about 15-20 minutes, and...
Just an update, have not had any further problems out of him. I am ready for what he throws at me, but he has taken to staying away from me. Charging him seems to have worked! I am happy about this, he is one I really wanted to keep.. but his being on the menu will always be negotiable :)
Ok, so I have stood up to the Roo, we had a good showdown, but when he tried at come to me, and peck, I stomped my feet, and bull charged him.. He did not like that at all, and backed away very quickly. I have found a yard stick, a little piece of trim to keep in my back pocket, but may not...
My sweet RIR roo, around 20 weeks old is normally a baby doll.. until yesterday, when he decided that he doesnt want to play so nice anymore? He has taken to chasing me around( literally chasing me around with me high stepping it the entire way across the yard).. hubby walked out and fell on the...
Hello, so glad to have found a place that is filled with great info, and people who love their chicks! My family have an acre, but got 6 chicks to start out.. not having much experiance, we fixed up an outdoor playhouse for our sweeties, and jumped in feet first! Found out at about 17 weeks...
From our RIR Nanny! The entire family is doing a happy egg dance! Cant believe how excited we all were as all 5 of us huddled around the hen house to see our Beautiful egg! This is our first egg ever, after having chicks since they hatched!
Sorry for the other stuff in the pic, that was just...
She is an older hen, we just got her a few days ago, she laid an egg yesterday with seemingly no trouble, was just worried as she seemed to be in some distress.
Hey guys, got a hen that was doing her "egg song", went in the nesting box, but stays there for 20-30 min, comes out, goes into a different nesting box, does the same thing, all while singing her song. This has went on for 3 hours now, should I be worried?
Thanks guys, I thought so too, out of 6 chickens we got, LoL 3 have turned out to be Roo's, and the other 3 pullets.. Love them all, but dont think I can keep 3 Roosters! They just all have such great personalities!
