    Ducklings with Chicks?

I had a single turkey in with ducklings and I ended up having to take him out after only an hour. The ducks had nibbled at the turkey so much, that the turkey was SOAKING WET. It was chilly weather and the turkey had to be taken back in the house to get warmed again. Ducks are crazy!

Are These Eggs Going to Hatch???

I have been wanting to hatch some early chicks, and my parents have given me some of their fertile eggs to hatch. The only problem is they work and don't get home until about 2 in the afternoon, and the eggs are layed and get cold between that time. If I put these in the Incubator, are they...

    New from Spencerville Indiana

Hi There! Welcome! I am from NE Indiana also, close to Angola! We are also doing meat chickens this Spring (maybe getting some in the next few weeks!). I think what has kept the bigger "critters" away from our chickens has been having 2 dogs, and electric fencing. We have had egg layers...

If I Want to Raise My Own Turkeys for Next Thanksgiving...

Hi! I have chickens and had tried my hand at raising a turkey from the feed store this last spring, but it died when the chickens attacked it one night. He was about 2 months old, and as big as the chickens his same age. But, I found him dead the next morning and was so sad! But I want to...

Almost 31 Weeks & NO EGGS!

OK, I checked out all of the usual hang out spots. Nothing. There aren't many places for them to hide their eggs. They are mostly in a pasture area, and lean-to & coop. A few of the Americaunas get out through the fence, and go to the garden & apple trees. In the pasture there is no where to...

Almost 31 Weeks & NO EGGS!

My older girls are DEFINITELY molting. But I am not finding any feathers from the new ones. They are fluffy and gorgeous. I will go out this afternoon and re-look in their spots where they lay and hang out. (Under a grape arbor...) We have recently cleaned out much of the areas too...

Almost 31 Weeks & NO EGGS!

They do make bee lines to the garden & apple trees. But we built a new coop, and I actually kept them shut in it for about 6 days, and there were no additional eggs those days (beside the 2-3 from the older chickens). I have also checked their spots between the barn & the garden... nothin...

Almost 31 Weeks & NO EGGS!

I am beyond myself, I don't know what the problem is. We have Ameracauna and Buff Orpington. They were hatched on April 6th 2009, which was almost 31 weeks ago. And I have YET to see any eggs from ANY of them! Around August, I expected them to start laying anytime, so I switched from the...

Free ranging turkeys and chickens together?

This Spring I bought 2 turkeys, and one died little. The other one I raised in my basement until he got big enough to go out with the rest of the barnyard. The first few days I lock him in a pen by himself. The one evening my hubby left him out. The next morning we found him, he had been...

How many people truly have "Backyard" Chickens?

My chickens have over 2 acres to roam and scratch around, but they choose to come up to my flower beds and dig... And to poop on my porches. They are backyard chickens!

Great I now have egg eaters

Mustard in an egg. That is a great idea. I have some Americaunas that (still) aren't laying but older chickens that are. And when I have then closed up in their *new* coop, the Americaunas eat the eggs (usually). So this idea, I will definitely try! Thanks!
