If your neighbors are OK with your backyard chickens, you could probably keep them under the radar of the "zoning police" without any problems. There were a number of folks in Madison, WI who did just that. They were part of the Chicken Underground and kept poultry illegally within the city...

We just received an email from Katherine Alvarez in Sewanee, TN. The officials there want her to get rid of her backyard chickens. She needs chicken-friendly people to send (polite) emails before July 15th.

Times are changing and the idea of keeping backyard chickens is truly becoming a national and international movement. Municipalities all over are having to rethink their outdated zoning laws that prohibit poultry.
