I think you are right! I took them off the antibiotics this morning. Sometimes there's seems to be "tricks" to this raising chickens thing... I guess there is not one here. Thank you!!!! ( :
hi all!
i got some babies and they came down with a respiratory illness. i decided to give them tetracycline. (the yellow powder in the water) my local feed store said 3 days on 3 days off and repeat until they are better.
is there a reason to take them off for 3 days? i've been giving them...
man..... we are torn!
our egg production is very little this week. i'm not sure if the girls have molted or already getting ready for winter? (they are all under a year) it was almost 70 degrees here in denver today. the reason we have chickens is for eggs. we also want to treat them as...
Just like everything in life.... I am a firm believer that nature does what it needs to do because that's inherently the way it works best. Thanks for the comments. It really mirrors what my instincts were telling me. : )
Thanks!!
From what I understand if I put a light on a timer and give the girls a few extra hours they will produce more eggs through the winter. I'm wondering if there is any risks? Will it mess with the girls natural instinct? Any info would be great!! Thanks!!!!
it's getting colder here so i am imagining that she is young and molting. she is a sweet gal and we are happy to have her. yes, we are glad she is a she. ; )

I appreciate your response! We only have 3 boxes and that is where they laid the first eggs. Do you think there is any reason to keep the eggs in there? My hunch is that they will just keep laying there..... right?
: )

I would post pics of our first eggs but we have a girly laying in the box right now so I don't want to disturb her.
I have a few questions?
Our boxes are clean so I am not anticipating any dirty eggs..... what's the best way to store them? I'm thinking on the counter big side up, good for 2...
At this point it is impossible for us to raise the roosting bars unless we do a complete overhaul of the coop..... I'll block the nests for a few nights and see if they take to it. ; )
In hindsight we would have put the roosting bars above the nests but this was our first coop. I'm thinking that clean up would be easier if they were sleeping on the bars.... I'm just not sure if there is a real reason to do this. (keep them out of the boxes at night) Will they only lay in the...
yay! i got "burnt" by a few roosters. ; ) this one was sold to me as an araucana....i also have an all white bird that was sold to me as an americucana. i'm really unsure of the difference.
