    NO MORE TYLAN 50

I have a few hens with a respiratory infection. Since tylan is no longer available what can I use to knock this out. I have been using VetRX but it's just not cutting it. I know I can't cure this and it may show up again. That's why I need something stronger. I have used the search feature here...

    advice for a novice please?

Last summer I raised some courtnix quail. I ended up raising about 100 all summer. I bought eggs and then hatched some of my own eggs. I tried selling the eggs and adults in my area but there was no interest so I just grew them up and processed them. I would like to raise some more but I found...

    not getting any more eggs!!!Why??

It doesn't have to real bright. I have an 8x14 coop and I use one 50 watt bulb. I usually have it come on at 5pm and it goes off at 10pm. It's on a timer.

    not getting any more eggs!!!Why??

Do you have lights in the coop? As we have less and less daylight you have to supply extra light. They need 14 hours of light a day or so.

Cost of raising a chick from hatch to lay???

Has there been any research done on how much it costs to raise a single bird from hatch to lay? I can buy ready to lay hens for $7. Was wondering if I could raise them for less. I know it's a lot of fun to watch them grow, but money is talking louder now than fun. Thanks Guys!!

    Cholesterol content in eggs

Does anyone know of a place where eggs can be sent to have the cholesterol level checked in eggs? My chickens are pastured raised and are eating organic feed. I would like to have this level checked. Thanks

    automatic waters

I have used nipple drinkers for years. These are the same knid that the commercial houses use. I have a 50 gal plastic drum that holds the water, and the nipple drinkers are gravity fed. I have never had a problem. I put heating cables on them in the winter and freezing is not a problem.

Anyone have any extra Purina coupons?

I'm not sure how I started getting them. They were for a free bag of feed. There was also one attached that was for a feed bag of bird feed. I got 4, 2 for each of the feed stores near me.

    Solve this winter problem

I have a set-up that might work. I took a blue plastic 55 gal drum and put a nipple drinker system to it. I then wrap a heating cable (what folks use to put on the pipes during the winter to keep them from freezing) around the drum and along the PVC pipe that the nipple drinkers are on. I only...

    wobbly duck

We have a 6-8 week old pekin mix that seems to be very unsteady on its feet. It swims fine, but when it is walking around, it is a bit wobbly. Is this normal?

    Question on little duck

We went to a small animal auction and got some bantam chickens. In the lot was a small white duck with some black on his back. His head looks like a Pekin. His feathers are just starting to come in, so he is still mostly yellow fuzz. He is about 10 inches long. We tried putting him with the...

Has it Gone as you expected ?

Told my wife we were only going to get 4-5 birds.... At one point we had 35. We now only have 13 and some quail. What I have found so frustrating, is how hard you work to keep preditors out, they still seem to find a way in. Most folks don't understand why we keep chickens. Their comment is...

    Nice Sultans

We had a hen Sultan Bantam a few years ago, and because she was SO friendly, my son would like to raise a few again, and maybe show some. Anybody know of a good resource for these bantams? I know Ideal has them, just not sure of their quality. Thanks a bunch. Jim:)
