We have adopted 5 red sex link hens. They are 2 1/2 to 3 yrs old. I do not know at what point they stop laying. We would like to get a rooster for them. We want one for protection, to help produce chicks, good egg laying breed, and one that would complement the characteristics of the hens...
Hi: We have two silkies, one a hen and one a rooster. We also have two buff laced polish hens. The silkie has a 6 week old chick. Those two are separated from the rest. However...the hen seems quite anxious to rejoin her flock....but I worry that the chick is too small and may get hurt..or...
She would be more safe and isolated if she were "under" the ramp. She has moved into the more "common" area. I went out to check on her...and one of the polish was on the upper level where she sleeps....and when she jumped down nearly jumped on Emma! I think we will put the dog kennel in the...
I am new at this. Please help.
I have a silkie rooster and hen, and two buff laced polish. I cannot believe how crazy I am about chickens!!! They are sooo cute!
Anyhow, the silkie is now sitting on an egg. Despite putting out two boxes for her to lay in...she lays under the ramp going up to...
Our buff laced polish has been recovering from wry neck...in our basement, for about a month now. She is soon ready to rejoin the flock (silkies and buff laced polish). My question is: our temperatures outside are about 20 F at night. We have a heat lamp....and during this really cold...
Our buff laced polish had/has wry neck. My husband put it in basement to see if he could nurse it back to health. It is doing much better....but now the weather is sooo cold....how do we "re-aclimate" it to go back in the coop? The coop has a heater in it....but with this cold weather it is...
We are new at this. We have a buff laced polish that developed wry neck..and my husband has been nursing it back to health. It is in the basement and has been for about a month and a half. He wants to bring the two others in to keep her company....but am leary about three chickens in the...
Thank you all for your responses!
We have her (?) on electolytes, aspirin, Vit e and selinium (sp?), and Poly vi sol. She is starting to get better!!! Slowly............
Thank you all. It is so hard to see her like this!
They were eating organic chicken feed for young chickens...but have started the organic laying mix that my hen gets. They get a piece of fresh vegetable each day (cucumbers today) with pumpkin and sunflower seeds....a bit of yogurt some days and some applecider vinegar in their water every day...
I am new at keeping chickens, and when I went out to the coop today one of my buff laced polish chickens (maybe 4 or 5 months old) was standing there with it's head hanging down. Then it sort of rubbed it's face in the shavings and then did like a backwards somersault. Then it flails around...
We got a Silkie Bantam and her two chicks. Turns out both chicks were roosters...and full size at that. We gave them (the roosters) to someone who needed them. So "Emma" has been on her own for about a week. We picked up some baby silkies today...and have them in the coop inside a dog...
Hi..I am looking for guidance. Someone gave me a silkie and two chicks. We converted gardenshed to coop, and attached an "a-frame" chicken tractor...till we could build a proper pen. The chickens are absolutley adorable! I cannot believe how fast the chicks have grown. Looked into coop...
