Once you remove the courtnix roosters how long will the hens continue to lay fertile eggs? I processed my older roosters 10 days ago keeping a young male in their place that is not yet breeding. Now I have a customer wanting chicks. Would any of their eggs be fertile from the former roosters?
My girls are back to giving me 5-6 eggs a day. Still more feathers floating around than usual but at least they are almost back to normal. (7 eggs/day from 8 hens). I had 4 Roos but butchered 1yesterday so down to 3.
Another question. I have quail hens that are roughly 11wks old and have just stopped laying last 2 days. I'm seeing more feather loss and some are scruffy looking. Could they be molting at this age?
So 4 of my 8 eggs hatched. I'm not completely bummed since this was my 1st attempt but I do have 1 issue. #4 hatched almost 24hrs after the other 3 and they are picking on "him". He's not very steady on his feet yet and I'm afraid they r going to hurt him. They are pecking and harassing him...
Thoughts on incubating eggs from quail who have only been laying a week? Would they be fertile? Should I wait a cpl weeks more to be sure the roosters are "doing their job"?
My girls are 7 wks old yesterday. Should I be expecting eggs any day? The boys of the same age are showing some foam so I think that would show maturity even though I'm not seeing any mating yet. Thoughts? I'm ready for eggs!
On Saturday I got 1 egg from my 5 girls. Sunday 2 and none since. What's up with that? Ideas? I was so excited thinking Here we go! Saturday night it was cold and snowy but it was 50 yesterday and to be 70 today. Ugh.
I'm sure it's a combo right now of lights and weather. I'm using small solar lights on them but they are not getting a reliable 14 hrs currently.
My concern is will they pick up as the days increase in length?
They don't seen to be stressed. I know my cage is a little small (24"x24") but there...
