Had not heard of feather fixer. May look into that. BOSS is a regular part of their diet, and surprisingly, they didn't particularly care for Pumpkin seeds.
Thank you so much for finding the answers I needed. I stopped the strike 3 after 3 days and know at least one bird is still not well. And they're molting. And no eggs. Will try again!
Yes, same hygromycin ingredient. Directions tell how to mix in 50 pound or one pound feed quantities, but not how many days to treat or when to repeat.
I am trying to worm 4 birds with Durvet's Strike III. Any clue how many consecutive days they should be fed this according to the instructions, and when I should repeat a course? Can I trust them that eggs don't need to be withdrawn from use?
Can anyone give me some advice on obtaining/sowing seeds to supplement my hens' commercial ration? I'd like to grow some (non GMO?) grains or grasses for the dual purpose of feeding just a few chickens and acting as a summer garden cover crop. Sunflower is an easy choice, but what about wheat...
Tantric D., I had great luck getting pullets at the late summer auction held by local 4-Hers who raised them in their chick-chain. Yes, they cost a lot, but I figured it was a good cause. They sold in lots of five birds and the best were pre-identified and drew the highest bids. My first egg...
Thanks for your responses. Despite my overprotection ? there appears to evidence of frostbite on the highest tippy points of a couple of my hens' combs following the single digit + wind blast we had. Just a dot of black and spot of white on a wattle. They have a fine coop, tons of...
We're in for another bout of cold weather (though not as bad as the polar vortex!) and I wondered how often to apply Vaseline to their combs and wattles for protection. Daily? Every other day? Less than that? Does it help keep their legs/feet warm, too?
One of my girls made a series of sharp, high pitched, unusual noises this morning for no apparent reason. At first I thought she was sneezing but it went on a bit longer and I wondered if they were hiccups.
I have four pullets that have just begun to lay and found a soft shell egg today. They are on a finisher ration that says no need to supplement with oyster shell. Think I might anyway, now! Others online indicate that very young birds may start out with this problem before it normalizes as...
Thanks for your advice on the decoy eggs. Unless I find more out of place I'll forego using any. Suppose three eggs from four pullets in their first week at their new home is pretty good anyway!
Hi all! Here's my first BYC post and today marks one week of owning four hens who have just begun to lay. I'm getting about one egg every other day, usually laid properly in a nesting box. Is the use of a decoy egg recommended for greater production? I don't want to encourage broodiness.
