i think that will work.. thanks...
Cell phone camera- if she is too swollen, can we just bsically poke it with a sterilized pin?
and do I need to see a vet for antibiotics- (really a LOT of money - 100$ for the 'intro' visit)

a coyote pup managed to get a paw on a friends 3 month old chick.. the wounds aren't very deep. she is cuddling up by the fireplace, this happened around 2 in the morning, a little while ago (1:00 EST) the eye near one of the cuts was puffy and filling with a clear fluid.. it is drained...
They don't sound over fed, and I don't believe they will overeat. Mine did eat alot when they first started laying.. They also can keep a lot in their crop. I think you are going through a lot of food because of so many birds - but most people I know just fill the feeder once a week or every...
sorry for your loss..
if you have coyotes (kinda like a wild dog with dog like strength catlike abilities to get into and out of trouble.) they are tall, lanky and come out around dusk up here...
if you have coyotes, you probably have opossums, coons, and hawks as well. a light tractor may...
it's extremely difficult to sex a silkie before a few months.. i have a few. The 7$ will probably come with a guarantee that they will replace one if it does turn out to be a rooster. I am no expert, but when young, it may require a vet to sex them out.
if you want a baby hen silkie...
I used a 3' tall run - used to pick it up onto it's side... went with a 6' tall run in a hurry.. and would never dream of going back to a smaller one..
you can use a large doghouse.. I love Baym...'s looks like a carrier in a cage.. I used a rabbit hutch ( slightly modified ) for 3 bantam's and 2 standards.
oh, for furnishings.. I used an old rabbit cage - and modified it a little. I purchased used 6' chain link and 8' metal stakes. overall the setup ( all used from craigslist ) cost around 150$... note - we just remodeled the coop to make it more cozy, insulated and better looking paint, hinges...
I have a 3x3x4 high coop inside a 12 x 7 run it is large enough for the 3 silkies and 2 standards ( buff and sexlink) a 20x20 is very big, especially if you are in an area where you need to provide a bird net over the top for flying predators.. if I had just silkies, I'd probably feel...
We had a wonderful time.. looking forward to next year. It wan nice to meet many of you. I will take an xl shirt off your hands, just pm me..
thanks again

no pasty but . fed her last lite, ate plenty, drank, pooped, walked over to her sisters and took a nap... seems fine, doesn't seem to be in any pain. very friendly when you wake her up.. aware of surroundings.. when chicks move, she gets up and moves where they are than takes another nap..
hmmmm
I have 3 silkies approx. 6 weeks old,. two are active, curious, and have great personalities. the third is very calm stands up, but tends to almost be falling asleep on her feet. used it has been about a week. wasn't the most active of the three ever - just walks to where the others are, fluffs...
very good point. i didn't consider roaming.. I intend to keep them in a playpen type area - let them outside while i tend to the greenhouse in the evenings.. I have a fenced in yard - just how bold are hawks when a human is in the same area as the chicken? - how close do they need to be kept..
