thank you so much for your reply and everyone else as well i give my hens treats from the gardens as well and they also free range i have 35 acres they can wonder the whole thing if they like but they only stay 100ft from the coop i think i learned why there not laying from a youtube video but...
They free range as well as I give feed not sure brand off top of head...I give them crushed oyster shells as well they also get tons scraps from my crops. I don't know what an "egg song " is first time having chickens. Thanks for all the help and that link good bit of info.

I got my first hens end of April they are RI reds there still not laying is there a time frame when they normally do everyone I have talked to says something different some said 6months some said 8 months and a few said a full year? Also I have 17 hens how many nesting spots should I have? Thank...
i just got my chicks. and one of the little guys has a hard clump on his butt looks like poop but its rock hard i tried warm water with a cloth but didn't really help any suggestions? first time having chicks since i was 10 years old so been a very long time. thanks

hmm Ok thanks for all the advice ill look on Craigslist...but maybe ill wait for spring then id prefer calmer nicer birds trained by me kinda skeptical on getting a flock off Craigslist for the fact yah never know how people treated them! i might check the auction out i don't know if i could...
ok so ive really been thinking my coop should be done by end of September or October at most should i get a couple month old chickens first b/c of cold weather starting to set in by then? or older? or just wait till spring and get day old chicks any advice? i am def a novice but trying to start...
