Thank you, PotterWatch, and all the others for their input. I guess we'll give them a few more weeks. Do people actually like to get just roosters? I'm wondering how I'll find homes for these... I'm new to having chickens in town!
I was wondering if the 'rooster' could be a Production Black - a mixed breed developed by Ideal Poultry?

Since the barred ones and the blackish roo/pullet come from Ideal?
Thank you for your responses! The black/orangish possible 'sex-link' is from an assorted chick pullet group from Ideal Poultry, so I would think it would be a true breed. Hopefully as he/she gets bigger it will become more obvious!
The 'Americauna mixes' and Welsummers are from a local...
Hi,
My chicks are about 8 weeks old now, and I am wondering if I have a couple of roosters or more in the mix (bought pullet day old chicks). I'm also trying to identify the breeds, more now that they are all feathered out. I can't keep more than one rooster here in the city, so I need to...
Hi,
I was given a coop my neighbor started to make for chickens he planned to have, but he decided not to complete the project. I have been working from this coop, expanding it, added another nesting box, etc. However, I have begun to believe he might have used cedar fencing boards. Now I am...
Thank you! I'm guessing they all have Coccidiosis. I lost the one with the largish crop yesterday afternoon. But I've lost several others as well, and her crop was the only one that felt that way. I have been putting apple cider vinegar in their water since we got them.
So I'm treating the...
Thanks, all. I started treating the whole bunch with Corid yesterday. The one mentioned died yesterday afternoon, lost another over night and one this evening. I was giving them water with an eye dropper and even tried whole milk today that my husband went and bought. The last one seemed to be...
Thank you, Sandstorm495! I started the chicks on Corid just now. Most are hanging in there, but one seems to be almost dead. I got some water down her with an eye dropper. I did notice though, that her throat area is enlarged and mushy feeling. Is this normal? Or is this a symptom of something...
I posted in the chick forum about some sick chicks I have, and bought medicine to treat Coccidiosis this morning. One of the chicks is on its last legs, however, and I noticed this morning that the patch just under its neck is very soft and largish. Is this a symptom of something else? I'm...
I have several chicks that are ill. They seem to have trouble walking well, lie down a lot, and hunker down in a corner. I don't see any sign of pasty butt, and they do eat and drink. One died yesterday, after going downhill very rapidly, but three more are like this and I'm afraid I'm going to...

he's in Belen, and I was impressed with his operation. Otherwise, check out New Mexico Poultry Swap at Edgewood feed store and there is one coming up at Miller's Feed and Supply on 4th street. (they have a Facebook page).
I hope that helps!
Emily :-)
Thank you so much for the responses. I was watching her a little today, and she seems to be doing better. She is eating and drinking fine. I wonder if it was a temporary reaction after leaping out from my son's arms when he was trying to lower her gently. I'll keep watching her, and may add...
One of my babies suddenly is having trouble with its legs sliding sideways when it walks. Sometimes it is able to walk properly, but mostly it is having trouble. We just noticed it this morning. Yesterday they all seemed fine. Is this a result of shavings being the bedding, or an injury? Is...
Thank you! I don't believe any have white legs. The first two pictures are of the same chick. I know this sounds ignorant, but where is the comb on such little ones? Is it right above the beak?
Hi, I bought 8 pullets from a lady who'd bought a mixed set of day old chicks. We picked out all black varieties. 4-5 of them seem to be Barred Rock (or maybe the Production Blacks?). But there are 2 for sure that are not, so I was wondering if someone might have a better idea? They are around...
Just a wee introduction. :-) I've been finding a LOT of helpful information here! We just started a little flock with 13 chicks, and are working on the coop while we keep them indoors. I had chickens as a child, but am new to keeping them in the backyard in a city, with our 4 kids.
I know some...
