She sounds stressed. Breathing like you have written can be due to pain. It is helpful to get some Metacam From your vet. It helps when they have an injury. Hope she gets better soon!!
The vet didn't send the tumor off. He was pretty sure that it was a certain type that isn't cancerous. She can balance very well without the wing. SO grateful for that. She is happy and eating very well. I put her in the coop yesterday for about an hour just to keep her part of her flock. They...
We figured out what this wound was on Monday. It was a tumor. My Vet removed her wing yesterday and so far so good. It is amazing how unaffected she seems by all of it. I am giving her some pain meds and antibiotics but as stated so good so far.
I felt the underneath of my hen's wing and found a huge lump. I finally figured out that this was a tumor not just a sore. Today, my vet removed her wing. She is doing well so far and I know she will have to feel better without the weigh of her heavy wing.
Thank you so much with your help. I have been spraying her wound with the
Colloidal Silver Spray when I first take off the vet wrap in the morning. I am leaving the bandage off all day and then wrapping in when I put her back in with the flock at night. I am putting the Colloidal Silver Gel on...
Thanks so much for your advice!!
We don't had a poultry vet in our area. So I saw the vet who works with the zoo and does some work on birds. The other chickens haven't been going after the wound, she has. It makes since to put her in a clean area and treat, but what can I do to keep her from...
You are right she is a Chantecler. I was in a hurry to get this post done!!!
My rooster has already injured this girl so I am trying to get some help with her wound. I do have the aprons and the ones with wing protectors. I have used a Dremel to round his spurs as well. Looking for help to know...
I have a 9 pound Chandler (I know big girl). My Rooster clawed her 6 about weeks ago. When it first happened, it was the size of a quarter. I went to my vet went I first saw it. He gave me an antibiotic and I gave it to her like he said and put medicine on the wound as well. This did nothing for...
I have a hen that looks like yours. It just started today. Mine get crumbles and organic feed along with fresh veggies. I wish I knew what is going on as well.
Thanks for your knowledge!!! I don't free range because I have to many hawks. I do have two big runs for them. I will watch for the signs and hope it all works like it should!
Thanks again!
I have Wyonettes and Orpingtons. I live in the south near the water. A few of the girls have been molting but not all of them. They are showing signs of maturing. Most of there combs are red. Only a few of them are showing the submissive squat. I just put some golf balls in their nesting boxes...
I have 16 girls who were born in April. So far none of them have started laying. I still have them on the starter crumbles because they haven't stated laying. So they get the crumbles, some seeds and some raisins from time to time. All of them seem healthy and happy. I just don't understand why...
She was just a little over a year. About 4 months ago she had a soft tissue injury and I nursed her back to health. She was separated from the flock but was out with them everyday in a separate area so they couldn't beat her up. I had her in a crate at night. I had allowed her to walk around the...
I live in Alabama. She was fine this morning and I was only gone for an hour when I found her. As I said the only thing she could have gotten in contact with was a toad.
Has anyone had a problem with your chicken dying from being around a toad?
My favorite hen died today. I am so sad and the only thing I saw near her in my barn was a toad. I read where they can be kind of toxic but I just don't know how she died. I nursed this one back from near death 5 months...
Sally, my chicken has recovered and doing great. I think she must have had a soft tissue injury. She is eating and walking like nothing ever happened. The problem I have now is that one of my hens is wanting to beat her up some.
I have been keeping her separate where she is around the others...
So sorry for your loss. I guess it is better to have love for the animals than not to, but it doesn't make any sense when you just find them dead when they were fine the day before.
again sorry,
Martha
I took my girl back to the vet on Wednesday. The vet did 4 x rays. One of each of her legs and one of her each of her hips. Nothing broken, none showing anything wrong. She won't put any weight on her left leg. I am giving her water and forcing the food. She seemed to stand up a little more...
