I thought about this too but it seems unlikely. Been in the low 40’s but it was much colder over the winter and they spend their nights in a small coop.
Hello all,
yesterday I noted that the comb of one of my year old Rhode Island Reds was partially black. Not sure what happened but it looks almost as if part of her comb got torn and is flopping around. The outside of the potential wound area is black and—not sure how helpful of a reference...
Hello,
My golden comet hen (9 months old) just laid a yolk, and when I looked at her vent it looked as if part of the egg--an unhardened shell- was not able to pass. I was able to gently remove some of it, but part of it is still stuck and it looks as if she may be partially prolapsed (see...
She seems to be about the same. Has been a little better at times, more lethargic at others. We have been hand watering her regularly (currently with a poultry nutri-drench, but with watery-gatorade and watered down vertex before), and she has been pecking at some dry starter.
Thanks for the tip! Tried it out with a little bit of success, hopefully I'll get better with practice! In response to your other questions i posted some more info above.
Thanks for the advice! Haven't felt anything like an air bubble, and she was chirping with each breath, but that seems to have subsided. (it was constant all night, came and went this morning--hopefully it stays gone--guessing it wasn't a good sign)
Attached is a video (w/ poop in it).
Had her for 3.5 weeks, got her along with four others from the local feed store (she is the smallest). She has food, water, and a heat lamp and is in her own enclosure right now. I noticed her symptoms late last night.
No real outward symptoms other than...
Hi,
We have a sick chick, roughly a month old. She has labored breathing, with her whole body moving, and is chirping as she breaths. I'm trying to get electrolyte water (gatorade--recommended by the feed story) and garlic water (as seen on BYC) into her, but are having trouble doing so. Any...
Hello,
One of my Golden Comet chicks appears to be in distress. She is roughly a month old, and is chirping at a constant rate, with much of her body moving at the same time as the chirp (almost as if she was hiccuping), with her eyes closed often. Her mouth appears to be constantly moving, and...
Hi,
i'm looking for a place where I could purchase custom printed egg cartons. I've only seen one decent place and those were on styrofoam containers :( does Is their a place that does them on paper or plastic cartons?
Thanks
We are building a new coop and were looking for some tips on making sure it is a healthy environment, as we've had sick chickens in the past. We have 7 chickens. Any tips to make sure this coop is better than ever would be great!
We did the warm bath/"lube job" and so far no egg, and we didn't feel one. She did squirt out some whiteish/yellowish liquid whch makes me thiink an egg might have broken. I'll post a pic. later, she is sleeping curled up in a pile of hay, so you can't see much now.
We have a 3 yr. old hen who is bloated, hunched over and unstable. I have gotten suggestions that she might be eggbound, but she only has some of the symptoms. What else could it be?
Thanks for all of your help! I've looked up sevin dust online and it looks says that it is toxic for humans. It's really safe to put on the chickens? If it is do you wear a mask or some other protective gear?
We have a three year old hen who has been bloated, walking unsteadily, and is hunched over. Recently we also saw she had mites. Is there anything we can do to get rid of the mites, and does anyone have any possible idea why she is sick?
Thank You
she is three years old, she wasn't eating very well, but has picked up in the past day or so. I am not positive when she last laid an egg, but it has not been since she has had these symptoms.
She is bloted, walking unsteadily and is hunched. She had a large blockage of poop that we cleaned off of her too. She all a round looks sick. I was wondering if anyone had any treatments for this or suggestions of any kind.
Thank You!
We are expirencing a heat wave here on the east coast (85 @ 8:30 am). One chicken has already died and another is showing similar symptoms...she is either sick or (most likely) needs to be cooled down. Any ideas how we can do this in a simple yet affective way? PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks
