We live in central Arkansas too!! I just hatched 2 chicks under one of our hens, momma and babies are out in the coup. We do have a heat lamp for night time.
I was thinking about putting them in a big dog carrier.. Would I need to keep the door shut and put food and water in with them?

My broody hen will have been sittin on her eggs for 18 days this coming Thursday. What do I need to expect? She is just sitting in one of our regular laying boxes. Where do I need to put her to keep chicks safe from the other hens? I'm so new to this any advice would be greatly appreciated!

He doesn't act aggressive towards anyone but me so far. However I do think it might be in out best interest to just go ahead and cull him. I can get a new rooster this spring. Thanks for all the advice!

My bantam aka " baby chick" (my kids named her lol) has been sitting on 4 eggs for a week. Only to have gotten off them for a few hours and they got cold. She is back on them now.. Is it possible they could still hatch?
Also she somehow added a new egg to her nest yesterday and is now sitting...
