I have some beautiful buff orpingtons that were hatched from eggs purchased from hinkjc two years ago. You've got some pretty birds there but they don't look like orps.
One of the chicks must be an Araucana. It has fluffy cheeks and green legs. The other one has green legs but lacks the feathery cheeks. I bought six chicks altogether, 2 silver-laced wyandottes and two red stars with my Brahmas-turned Araucanas. One of the red stars is half the size of her...
One of the Buff Orps went broody yesterday. She's sitting on a clutch of eggs with the first from 4/11 and 4 from yesterday and today. Baby chicks on Mother's Day? I can't wait.
We have 3 buff orpingtons, 3 RI reds and a wyandotte. I was counting on our 2 cochins, but they were injured by the roosters and didn't survive. I guess I'll have to get out the incubator.
I thought two of our hens were getting broody so I left a clutch of eggs in one of the nests for two weeks, but neither stayed on the nest. I'd like to hatch eggs naturally rather than through incubation. How do I get a hen to brood?
Can someone tell me what the width of a droppings box should be? I know the roost should be 18 inches off the wall but how much wider should the droppings box be? Is a 30" width enough or should I make it 36"???
I finally gave in last night and broke open an egg and then another and another until all were open. It looked like two were fertile but died very early on. This was my first attempt at incubating. Maybe it was the handling in shipping or something I did wrong; but the next time I try...
I purchased six Big Buff Orpington hatching eggs and not one has hatched. It's now Day 24 and no sign of anything happening. They've been in the Hovabator at 99-100 degrees. Humidity was between 50 & 65 through Day 18, then 75+ since. Should I give up and try again? We're all so disappointed.
