Thank you for your opinon al6517. I appreciate the information you have passed on, you addressed my feed concerns. This was a planned 3 family project, so cost would have been spread out among the 3 families but still high I believe. Again not expecting the large weights of X's, I would want...
I have 60 White Rock roos coming in the end of May. We can't raise the Cx's due to altitude... From what I have read here, I'm looking at 20 -24 weeks of growing I believe, I plan on starting with unmedicated starter (they will be sprayed at the hatchery for coccidiosis) my question is should I...
I'm getting an order of 60 White Rocks the end of May. So I'm curious as to how the ones you have will do as this is my first venture into meat birds and we cannot raise the Cornishx because of altitude. From what I have gleaned here on BYC they seem to be an acceptable meat bird. I was glad...
Went to the library this weekend and came across a great cookbook. It is called Eggs, the author is Michael Roux. There are 299 pgs of egg recipes and he uses all types of eggs and explains the difference in each. The pictures are beautiful. I'm always looking for new ways to use my eggs...
We have two Aussies, a male and a female. My male is the best at taking care of our chickens, just the other day a big redtail came over the pasture where our birds range and Boomer was on him in no time flat, it amazes me how he knows which birds are a danger, we even have Frugenious Hawks...
I have just started working for a company called West At Home. I found them through Frugal Village, I think. You basically become a customer service agent and receive calls at your home, on your schedule. If you go to their website, it explains it all. I also found WAHM.com (work at home...
Ok had to jump in here I'm just east of Falcon, south of Blk Forest. I have a sweet 10wk old Blk Australorp roo that needs to find a new home and a nice 7 month old Blk Australorp hen that could keep him company
DH and I are riders and last year were nearly rear ended by a big dodge ram, all I could think was this is gonna hurt!! What was funny was the car BEHIND the truck saw what was about to happen and she swerved around him and that is what alerted the driver of the ram, he missed us by inches...
I have had a house chicken for almost a year now. Miss Spinner. She does spend her days outside in our patio area or in the baby chick pen, but she comes in every evening and spends time with me and our dogs in the kitchen, then puts herself to bed in a dog carrier. She is a banty cochin and...

As soon as we noticed her beak growing crooked we began trimming it and after only 2 or 3 trims it started growing more normally. We keep an eye on it but so far so good it is off just a hair now you really have to look to notice it.

2 to 2 1/2 doz a day now. Luckily I have some customers and friends, that are keeping my fridge from over flowing as I'm not the biggest egg eater. I do love going out and collecting, the girls all seem so proud of themselves and there is just something about gathering fresh warm eggs.

We have a house chicken her name is Spinner. She is our special needs chicken, when she gets scared she starts spinning in circles, she is a tiny banty cochin, who also started out life with a crooked beak, but we got that fixed. Spinner comes in at night explores the kitchen and living room...
Oh had to jump in here, Marans, Welsummers for sure for me this spring. But I really need to be able to get chicks, haven't ventured into the world of incubators yet. Although I have a Buff Orp that just went broody on me (and she is SO cranky). Too cold for babies now, so I keep pulling the...
We have a Hearthstone soapstone wood stove. We have been useing it for about a month now on those chilly mornings mostly. Have propane as a back up but haven't even lit the furnance pilot yet. Even during 3 blizzards last year our furnance never kicked on. I love ours it was a big selling...
