Thank you. I was thinking snake also. We have them as big as 7 ft. here. The day after this attack, my DH found two 3-4 footers hanging out on the rafters next to this pen.
I've seen rat snakes release eggs. Does that count? We just found 3 dead chicks with wet heads and no other trauma. I'm guessing snake because nothing else could have gotten in.
This evening my DH found 3 out of 5 of our 8 week old chicks dead in what I called our 'Fort Knox' house. Whatever killed them just left them. No damage to their bodies but their heads and necks were wet. Their heads were bent back like their necks might have been broken. I found where a...
:hugs sorry for your loss and sorry for my late reply. I have Pekin with Muscovy. Work great together. Just make sure you have plenty of males to females.
Thank you:) It was actually a change in departments with additional functions:rolleyes: lol. I'm too old to learn new things, lol. I will try to measure some today. My girls always run into the pen to get away from the boys so I thought I'd fix it so they couldn't come in after them.
Hey everyone:frow I've been swamped with a new job and lots of ducks. I hope everyone is doing well and hello to all of the new members.

This is Harvey, my little trash can baby. I discarded some eggs after a Mama left with her hatchlings... 5 days later and we were buckling everything down for hurricane Harvey and I hear cheeps coming from the trash can. I dug through the trash and found him with an external pip, no zip. I...
X2
Like you, I had some go into hiding. I've got babies everywhere. It breaks my heart to take up their eggs and it scares me they will go outside of the protected perimeter but I have got to do it. I try to go in when they are off their nest to eat and bathe. Good luck to you:)
Goodness. Are you sure that duckling is just a week old? It looks like an injury that didn't heal right. Is it doing that between both does? If it's not an old scabby like wound that you can soak in Epsom salt to loosen it up, you might need to cut it like this picture to release the two so...
