    We did it again!

My youngest won with her broiler at our fair this year. Last year my oldest won the same class. We are so happy right now. I think we are going to get a tub plucker with part of the sales money. I'll try to post a pict soon. I'm on my phone right now, my loving hubby killed my laptop with a...

Sort of meat related but funny

This isn't meat bird stuff but I figured ya'll would get a kick out of it. We have been having problems with broken/eaten eggs lately and our RIR's are always the ones with the eggy beaks. We decided that when our Buff Orps started laying in a few months we would go ahead and butcher the...

    Nest help

I posted this in the coops area and didn't get much in the way of help so I figured I would ask here. When I was a kid our neighbour had some front roll out nest boxes that I would like to find. The eggs rolled out the front of the nest under the perch and then rolled down to one end of the...

    Roll out nest boxes

When I was a kid our neighbour had some front roll out nest boxes that I would like to find. The eggs rolled out the front of the nest under the perch and then rolled down to one end of the boxes into a collection bin. You could gather the eggs from outside the coop. He was using them for...

    Frozen hen

It's 8 degrees here with a windchill of -7. I just found one of my RIR's frozen in the nest box. The dumb hen always insisted on sleeping in there instead of with the others. Poor thing. I've lost a few to the heat but this is the first to the cold. I really HATE winter.

    We won at the fair!

Our local fair was this week and my girls did great! We won Grand Champion chicken and she sold for $600. $600, for a chicken and they gave her back to us! I couldn't believe it and the kids are thrilled because they each get $300. They did pretty well with the turkeys and rabbits too but...

    partially processed turkey

I was in the middle of processing a turkey yesterday when my daughters friends mother called and said my daughter had passed out and she was freaking out. I had the turkey hanging and bleeding out so I wrapped her in a plastic bag and stuck her in the frig and went to town. I was in the middle...

    Wild rabbit help

I have a sewer drain pipe for my RV. Sometime this winter the cover disapeared. Now there is a young rabbit living down in the pipe and I need to find a way to get and keep it out long enough to get a new cover on the pipe. I don't want to do anything that will kill the rabbit, mostly because...

    Lots of fluid....

We had a broiler that wasn't doing well this morning, breathing hard and not moving around so we went ahead and butcherd it. When I was "processing" it there was a lot of fluid inside. The bird is only a pound and a half cleaned ,but there was what seemed to be a cup of water that ran out when...

    order minimums

What is the smallest order minimum ya'll have seen for turkeys? My girls want to show turkeys in 4-H but I don't want 15 of them. We just don't eat that much turkey in a year.
