Hi there - I have a question. My neighbor bought two dozen eggs of my free range eggs yesterday from me. They had been in the refrigerator when I gave them to her. They stayed in her car all day (mid 90s in Texas yesterday). She asked me if they were still good. I am not sure since I had them in...
Hi there. I think that one of my buffs had a heat stroke yesterday afternoon as it was 104 degrees here in Texas. When I found her she was very lethargic and panting. Unfortunately it looks like the other girls had been pecking on her head, as there is a bloody spot next to her comb. I was able...
We have 14 hens...1 Barred Rock, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 1 Cuckoo Maran, and 10 EE's. Three of our EE's are younger, but the older "girls" have decided to continually pick at one of the younger ones. She has no feathers under her beak, and is missing several on her neck and upper shoulders where they...
Last Thursday morning around 10:00 we had our first hawk attack since we have had chickens (3 years). Unfortunately it got our only banty EE. I scared it off and got all our other 18 ladies in the coup. It didn't take her off but later I saw it sitting on the fence. We have about 3/4 an acre...
Hi, We have (or used to have 19) hens. EEs, Golden, Buff Orpingtons, Cuckoo Morans. I have lost one Buff and today lost one EE. The Buff started by standing by the waterer with her eyes closed. At first she would go back to grazing but eventually she wouldn't and died the next day. She was 15...
We are not sure what it was. I came home this evening about 7:30 and noticed feathers all around the yard. We had 26 chickens. I could tell immediately that one was dead and another was pretty hurt. Many are missing tail feathers and rump feathers. A few have gashes and punchure marks on their...
Hi there, I have a maran momma and 6 maran chicks (8-10 weeks old fully feathered). They are separate from our other 16 hens, but as the chicks are getting bigger and don't really fit under their momma anymore, I was wondering when it was safe to start letting them out with the other hens? Also...
Hey there:
As my name implies, I live in Texas but now have 18 chicks instead of 15
Alittle background. We have 3 EE that are over a year old. In Feb of this year we brought home 6 EE, 3 Buff Orpingtons, and 3 Cuckoo Morans.
Things were going great until late April when our young 12 was...
I am going to repost a few pictures of my bantam to see if I can find out what kind he/she is. Also anybody know when we will know whether it will crow or lay?
It's the little one.
Well, we just moved 12 babies out to the coup, so I go to our local Feed store and bring home 4 more. 3 are EEs but they had the cuties little Bantam that I just couldn't resist. I am just not sure what he/she is. Can anybody tell?
