    96 Hour Chick Ship

Just checking back in to give the update, sorry it took a while! I ended up getting 9 of the 10 chicks I ordered on this hatch day. They have been wonderful and healthy since I've brought them home! They were still understandably a little tired when I got them home, but I spoiled them for a few...

    96 Hour Chick Ship

They did! They're not home with me, though -- I ordered them through a small, locally owned shop. They arrived to the store and I've been in contact with them. Apparently there were some survivors (they didn't give numbers) and the owners and staff are nursing them back to health and have...

    96 Hour Chick Ship

Oh my goodness thank you for your response! That is all really great information! I’ve used the electrolyte/ probiotic packets for my healthy chicks, but will definitely be running out to get some Nutridrench!

    96 Hour Chick Ship

Hi everyone! First time chick mama here, I have 26 babies right now and they’re doing great! My hatch from the 29th never showed up at the post office, though, so obviously I’m thinking I lost all of them but I can’t help hoping that a few might arrive alive. My question is: Has anyone had...

Mama Heating Pad Piling or Snuggling?

Thank you! Logic tells me "You know they're quietly resting!" But Inexperience is a pretty loud voice, as well, and it's been yelling at me to panic 😂🤦‍♀️

Mama Heating Pad Piling or Snuggling?

I have one particular chick that has started doing this and it made me think of your comment! She'll break off from the group and stand up really tall and cheep away loudly until a friend comes to hang out with her

Mama Heating Pad Piling or Snuggling?

Thank you! While I've been researching and preparing for the babies to get here it all seemed so obvious what to do: Get them home, let them rest. If they seem sick, help them out. But now that they're home and resting I'm second-guessing everything 🤷‍♀️

Mama Heating Pad Piling or Snuggling?

Just brought home a batch of chicks and put them under the MHP! It is either going really really well, or they're listless and piling. This is my first time with chicks, so instead of whipping myself into a frenzy, I thought I'd reach out to people with far more experience than I. A little...

Stressed chicks arrive 72 hours after hatch.

I love the store that I ordered through, I'm very lucky to have a shop like this available to me! It's a small husband-and-wife owned business, they've got big hearts and a lot of experience. And thank you for the info! I have the powdered electrolytes but I think I'll also get some Nutri-Drench!

Outdoor Brooding - When to put them outside

Thanks everyone! My first batch hatched on the 17th and just now made it to the small local feed store that I ordered the chicks through (on the 20th). They sent out an email saying that they're going to keep them for a few extra days before allowing pickup so they can help the babies...

Stressed chicks arrive 72 hours after hatch.

Hi everyone! (Almost) First time baby chick mama here! I ordered chicks through an amazing local feed store (hatch date of 03/17). They order through Cackle. All of the chicks arrived to our local USPS this morning (03/20) and they're crazy stressed (they lost a number of them in transit and...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

That sounds like it would work really well! Our dog crate is quite a large plastic one. I think if I use that, I will take the top off (it's pretty deep), or I'll use a tote. Either way, I'll try to rig it up so that I have some way of tying the feeder/waterer to keep the food/water from...

Outdoor Brooding - When to put them outside

That's actually a great point. I always feel so bad for them when I think about their first experiences in this world.

Outdoor Brooding - When to put them outside

In that case, hi hello neighbor! And thank you! Our chicks are actually coming from Cackle and arriving first to a local feed/homesteading store, then I go pick them up and bring them home, so the chances of them being a little freaked out are increased, I think.

Outdoor Brooding - When to put them outside

I'm really coming around to this idea. I think my hesitation to keep them inside for the first couple of days is just knowing that they get stressed out from change, I'd hate to get them all comfy in a bin indoors, then shift their world all over again. But keeping them inside to observe and...

Outdoor Brooding - When to put them outside

Hello everyone! I'm getting my very first batch of chicks in a few days. I've had chickens for almost 8 years, but I've never ventured into the world of baby chicks until now. I'm hoping to get some opinions from people with more experience than me. I will be brooding outdoors in my...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I'll start by saying I'm planning on letting the chicks let me know what they need and just rolling with it and trying to ride the brooding wave. I have seen a lot of different opinions of when to move chicks outdoors. From "Out of the shipping box, into the outdoor brooding area even if its...
