Twice in one week my 1yr. old golden sebright has attacked.
He is doing his job and just protecting his girls but it is not me
he is attacking but my Mom last Fri., and a lady who stopped for eggs
last night. Is this normal for this breed? Plan on taking off of roost
tonite and well you know...
So I picked out two last year-both roos
but they are doing fine together- they are the only roosters
with 7 standard hens. This year I got 5 more
standard pullets and decided to try for a banty hen-well....
I think I have another roo. My mom said next year try getting 10
and maybe one of them...
They are just six weeks old, and liking the new digs.
I was glad the cage I used as a brooder fit under the nest boxes.
They were in the run and loose in the coop for a while today while
the others were free ranging. I will miss the peeping in the house,
but was so glad the feed and waterer...
Any ideas? My pop door faces north. We have had highs in the lower 40's
recently with some strong north winds. Enough that the shavings are being blown
around in coop. This will be my first winter with chickens and was wondering
if anyone had used a tarp or something else over pop door that...
I have one that is really out doing herself. Husband
got a huge egg Wed. that had a seam or checking I guess
it's called around the top half. It looked like the plastic eggs
in the nest box with the seam higher up on the egg.
I told him she was trying to keep up with the size of those
plastic...
8:00 husband answers phone-friend that found hen in a city
trail. ct.. He knew we had chickens so husband says sure bring
her out. She appears young-RSL, I have 2RSL, so I could at least
identify what breed. He has had her in a dog crate since Tues., she's laid
2 eggs, he put an ad in the paper...
I have a Golden Comet who has been laying since 6/20/09
She lays 5-6 eggs a week. Yesterday she laid at 7:00am
no problem. Last night as I was sitting out there watching them
she seemed listless, eyes shut just standing in run. One hour
later she passed a soft shelled egg in the run 9:00p.m...
Decisions, decisions. Newbie here who ended up
with 9 roos (7 Standards, 2 Banties), 6 hens. I got rid
of 3 roos three weeks ago. The others had not matured yet.
The ones I sold to a guy were a little on the light side at
15 weeks, so I thought I would try and wait until 20 weeks.
We did...
I locked the chickens up at 9:15 tonite. Our coop is about 30 feet from
the back of our house, I was coming up the deck steps when I looked
out at the pasture and seen a family of coons, 5 total crossing the road
onto our property. I told my husband we've got trouble. Not 15 minutes
later our...
My 17week old BO roo "Big Guy" seems huge
in comparison to the rest. I know roos are bigger
but if he is twice the size of pullets, will this pose
a problem when he starts breeding? I picked him
because of his personallity, sleeps on my lap, can pick up,
loves to be scratched between his...
I'm keeping 3 roosters out of nine. 1 BO "Big Guy" 16 weeks not crowing
yet, huge bird, sleeps in my lap. 2 Banties, they are pretty low on the pecking
order, so I hope it works. I ended up with 6 hens-was hoping for 10 but I'm
not very good at picking out chicks. 2 BR roos (still up in the...
She started laying at 15.5 weeks. I took pictures
of all 5 eggs she laid her first week. I can't believe
the dif. in size and color. Notice the dark brown eggs.
These dark ones came after she didn't lay the day before.
I told my husband they were dyed longer (extra day)
I can't wait for my...
I posted about this hen last Sun..
Different behavior, squatting and nesting.
She's only 15.5 weeks but it happened
today. She's been so talkative, and pulling
the younger hens out of her box. Well to
say the least I'm eggstatic. Told my hubby
it was to bad she didn't lay one for his...
So I'm new to chickens and people think
my chickens have a better home then some
people do. They also think I'm nuts when I tell
them about the yogurt and other treats they get.
Well I came across this little T.V. and I couldn't
resist giving them something else to talk about.
It doesn't work...
Finished the tractor. Chickens love the grass
just not sure about why and how it moves. I only
plan on using it when we are home during the day.
Thanks to all who posted their tractors, I got a lot of good advice.
Only advice I have is don't construct entire tractor 4'x8' out of 2x4's.
Wheels...
So she's 15 weeks, squating in nest box today.Tonight
she let one of the roosters mount her.
Does this behavior mean she's going to start laying
soon. Newbie question I know.
Thanks
