Chicks should not go outside until at least 8 weeks of age! While weather is a factor, more important is the fact that they have not built up an immunity to resist coccidia and other parasite illnesses. Young birds are very vulnerable to predators, parasites, yellow jackets....keep them inside...

So bewildered! Today I found one of my week old chicks lying on her back dead. When I picked her up, I noticed what appeared to be a bite mark from a bee or other flying insect. Does anybody know if a bee sting would kill a young chick?
That is what I will do! I removed the egg from the Mama, as she pecked the other two that she was laying on and the babies were forming. I couldn't stand to see her break open the only remaining egg, so I put it in the incubator. I know, it was not the brightest idea. What do you think about...
