    only one egg?

RIR that's right. They are eating the right feed with occasional fruit/veg treats as we have them. How do I check for worms or egg bound? Still haven't found any eggs since last week. And I'm not sure what molting looks like but there are a few feathers lying around.

  8. step2626

    time to go outside?

We got these guys on Easter and they're outgrowing their space. Is it too soon to put them in the coop with the rooster? It's hot out during the day...60s at night.

    First time with babies

Temporary set up...I can see this is too small but better than the box. I need a bigger shelf for the water too...

    First time with babies

Thank you. Yes we'll be putting them in a bigger box. This is just for yesterday and today while at my moms house. When we get home accommodations will be much nicer!

    New Chicks

I just picked up my first set as well. We have 8 ...uh 1 week olds? I don't really know how old they are! Great questions too

    First time with babies

We just picked them up today. They should all be hens but we'll see. Now we must fix our coop. Round 1 with adults didn't go quite as planned.
  16. step2626

    something is killing our chickens

Yes we are. We need to reinforce our chicken area with a lid or clip their wings. We'll be getting chicks this time which we haven't done before so more learning coming our way!
  17. step2626

    something is killing our chickens

Yeah there was another attack yesterday and the neighbors beagle was spotted in the coop. We've talked to the neighbors about it.
  18. step2626

    something is killing our chickens

One of the 2 cats took on the dog yesterday so it's possible the new cat is the problem. New cat vs dog...that cat did not run from the dog.
  19. step2626

    something is killing our chickens

We've lost 4 chickens today and a 5th is dying. :( we picked up 2 house cats on Sunday night. Would the cat kill the chickens? 2 hens and 2 roos...dead one roo mia... middle of the day attack. Our birds free range during the day. We built a "pen" but silly us...they fly out so they free range...
  20. step2626

    killed our first chicken

After more research we realized our roos are a normal size. They a a little "old" and should have been killed a few weeks ago. This time a couple of them jumped out of the killing cone aka milk jug before they passed. But hubby is getting better and finding that artery.
