Graceful Bantums, I am totally with you & feel your pain. We had lost 3 of baby RIR's last week, & we thought we had "fixed" their run. We left for a weekend trip on Friday, came home yesterday to feathers all over the yard, two more of my baby RIR's & one of my Production Red Layers gone & a...

I have never heard of those. Thank you for all your great suggestions. I guess we will definately have a ton of research to do, especially now with all the suggestions you have given us. Thank you so much for all of your input.
see...that's what I thought. I called my dh & was telling him what everyone was recommending and he said when he was a child, they had one that killed a couple of the neighbors chickens so he the neighbor shot it. They had a hard time keeping it in the fenced yard, it was always climbing the...
And see, that's just it, when we are not at home, the chickens are in their run, but when we get home (sometimes) but especially on the weekends when we are outside, we let them "roam" the yard and enjoy it very much. Even on mother's day, when it was at our house, everyone was sitting back...
thanks for the info...but I thought border collies weren't good with chickens?? I just dont know...and still upset over losing two babies. keep the info coming people...i appreciate it.
Got home yesterday evening, went to go check on my chickens since this past weekend we moved the babies into the "Big House" with the others, and I notice everyone's quiet, spread apart, not "harassing" each other (odd ), looked over to where the babies were "huddled" and there's only 5!! I'm...
I got it, I got it!!!! Get someone else addicted to chickens, then you can "share" with them and your addiction should lessen!!! Dang it, nope that wont work either, cause then they'll have a chicken you want, then you'll have to go get it, and get another one just to top them...
(standing up) Hello, My name is Ginny, and <SIGH> I am addicted to Chickens. It doesn't help that my DH likes them now as well, my sons are telling us about ones they have seen they want us to get, plus my M-I-L wants some, several cousins have some, plus one cousin is now incubating(?) so I...

Thanks firedove...we put the nuggets (who are now 5 wks old) out in the run yesterday with the "teens" but I let the big girls freerange. For the most part, they did fine, an occasional peck but ok. We then put the big girls back in to see how they would do with the babies...
I have had an absolute blast on this site, not to mention have learned so much . As well as told so many people about it. I hope all works out well for you and yours. Enjoy the show
Thought of a name yet for it???? I would think Mary if it's a girl!!
that's exactly it!!! used to be very very wary, now they (and the "teenagers") fight over whatever it is before i even put it down!! And OMG help me if i dont have "enough" or put it in separate piles!!! YES MY QUEENS, I WILL BRING MORE NEXT TIME!!!

and see that's the problem we have right now with the nuggets , down here the temps have been in the 70's at night so we were thinking of moving them out asap (if the big girls wont mess with them too bad in establishing pecking order)
I'm curious on this myself....so I'll bump. we have 7 RIR babies (aka chicken nuggets) that are 4 1/2 wks old now, almost too big for their cage, planning on taking them to the run this weekend and see how they do with the "teenagers" and big girls.
don't feel bad, we have two production hens that are suppose to be 6 months old, one is laying fine, the other isnt (get a fart egg or soft shell regurarly, and an occcasional double yoker). their beaks were cut as well (meanies), seemed kinda "skittish" when it came to their "run", wasnt sure...
