That makes sense. However, she has not been acting broody otherwise: hangs out outside (not in the nesting boxes) scratching and pecking for bugs and greens all day with the rest of the flock.
I have a leghorn/ameraucana pullet that has a bald spot on her chest. It looks like molting, but she is only 10 months old. (I heard hens usually have their first molt around 18 months.) We dusted her for mites as a precaution. However, I did not see any on her. I have not noticed her in the...
We went out of town for a mini vacation, and when we got home our sweet polish crested was MIA. We later figured out that a fox or coyote probably got her.
We are looking for a new pullet. These three chicks are available locally to "replace" her. They are four weeks old. Do they look...
We frequently have 100+ degree days during the summer (California). I would like to plant some dwarf fruit trees or shrub trees in our chicken run to create shade and possibly grow fruit. Are there any trees that my chickens will not usually eat?

The chick is extremely lethargic and will not eat or drink unprompted. She is usually the first to perch on...

Our incubator was at 101.5 for the first 24 hours our eggs were placed in the incubator. Do our chicken eggs stand any change of hatching?
I think the thermometer to our Brinsea Mini Eco (forced air incubator) was on it's side too long. I thought we'd got the air bubbles out, but realized on...
