My DH & I raised a couple of pigs. They are now in the freezer. We had grain left over when they were butchered. He sad that we could feed it to the chickens. I say no. Can anyone settle a dispute for us?

Have you considered that RATS,,arrg could be getting into your coop and eating the food? That's what we're dealing with right now. They can clean out a feeder lickety slick.
I have a coop with a concrete floor. After spending several hours on Sunday cleaning out the shavings...I have been using the deep litter method...I was wondering if it is OK to have bare floor. I have concrete floor in there which would make it a breeze to simply hose out once a week. They...
Could someone explain to me what bumble foot looks like? I have an 8 week chick who was fine, running around with the rest of the flock. A couple of days ago I noticed she was limping, more like hopping actually. I managed to pick her up today & one of her feet is totally turned under. I...
We have a flock of 35 chickens ranging in age from 6 weeks to 3yrs. The 6 week olds are separate from the rest of the flock. The hens free range. We have a hanging 3 gallon feeder in the coop which we have always filled to the top to let the 'girls' free feed. Lately we have noticed that there...

I got six new chicks today. They came from an order I split with someone else. She ordered a brown layer assortment from Privett. I have no idea what breed they are. Three have a broad black stripe down thier back & three have leopard spots on thier back. Any ideas?

My chickens have started 'flying the coop' . Fencing hasn't contained them, so we are wanting to clip their wings. Do I just clip one wing or both?

I have a flock of 30 . They break down into 4 different age catagories. We want to band them so we can identify the age group. Can anyone fill me in on how to band? Also do have to order bands on line, or are they carried at a feed store.

Hi, I'm about to add 6-8 new chicks to my flock. I enjoy a variety & I am thinking of adding New Hampshire, Delaware, Production Red. I'd be interested for input about the laying & personality of these choices.

How long can an egg be considered fresh if it has been wiped clean? I live in the rainy Pacific NW & have free ranging hens. Nine times out of ten my new laid eggs have muddy shells. Some of my customers have complained about 'dirty eggs'. I have explained about the protective coating. If...
Well I have put her in with the babies, and so far so good. The brooder set up is metal dog run & it has a dog carrying crate in there also. All the babies go in and out of the crate & 'mom' went in after them. I watched her carefully & she just seemed to look at them closely. She didn't attack...
Hi, as a lot of you know, a couple of days ago we lost our little Peep. My buff who hatched her & cared for her for 3 weeks is now quite distraught. I put her back in with the rest of the flock, hoping that she'd get back to normal. I also moved my 6 day old chicks..11 of them, out of thier...
Thank you all. I know that it's all in natures big picture, but it still hurts. Now poor mama is going through it because she's now back with general population & is finding herself low man on the totem pole.

I am so sad to tell you that my little 'Peep' came to a sad end. Today I let 'Peep' who was a 3 week old Welsummer, go out with his mama free ranging with the rest of the flock. I watched them carefully for most of the day to make sure he/she was accepted & everything was fine. In the late...
