Possible tumor - warning - graphic photo

Thanks for the feedback. I did cut into several of the areas, and didn't see anything that looked like an egg or an egg without a shell. Does marek's cause liver cancer? I know this was not her liver, because I found it and it looked fine. This is an older hen.

Possible tumor - warning - graphic photo

We have had a hen that has not been doing well over the last 6 months and was dead in the coop this morning. Upon opening up her abdominal cavity, this was taking up the majority of the space there. It is very lumpy and bumpy. Her organs were all intact that I could tell - at first, I thought...

    Coop Creation

What came first....the chicken or the egg? Or in this case, the shell. Well, it was the chicken. We'd been talking about chickens ever since we first bought the property. So this year, we just did it. Now what do we do with them? For my Dear Sainted Wife, nothing fancy, just make it work...

Easter Egger egg color has changed?

Thanks everybody - I was worried since I hadn't seen a green egg in a long while and wondered if something was wrong with her. Since she doesn't seem to be sick or hurt, and is acting normal, I won't worry about it:)

Easter Egger egg color has changed?

Thanks for the replies all . I don't think she is hiding the eggs - they are in an enclosed yard and the coop attaches. I thought maybe they were getting eaten by the other chickens, but I am finding other eggs, so I can't imagine them just eating hers and not the others - lol. Guess I will...

New to chickens? how many are you starting with?

We started with 14, and now have 12 (two extra roosters went in the freezer). Actually, if we had just wanted eggs for ourselves, we could have done with 4 - lol. The 11 girls are still laying between 8 and 11 eggs a day, so we have lots extra that I give away if I can't sell them.

Had to make the hardest decision of my life today!

You definitely did the right thing - we had three last year and they were constantly fighting and the girls were miserable. The gentlest one stayed and the other two hit the freezer. We could tell a difference the next day - everybody's happier!

Small egg from a good 7 month layer

Our white leghorns have been laying good for 7 months now with 1/day. Yesterday we were 1 egg short, but didn't think much about it. Today we had 1 egg from each, but one is very small, about 1/3 normal size. Shell seems good, but the shape is rounder than usual. They all seem to eat good with...

    Purina Layena

Ours have done fine on it - they prefer the crumbles though. I accidentally bought pellets last time and had to mix warm water in with it to get them to eat it. Have 11 hens and have been getting 10-11 eggs daily even in the cold weather.

Cold Weather Treat! Disclosing my Secret Recipe!

Mine got some pelleted food with hot water mixed in, and then added cooked oatmeal, chopped apples, a little yogurt, some left over broccolli, and some granola mix this morning. I haven't tried giving them eggs, but that's a thought. They loved it.

    Dog Breed Experience Poll/Database

Our current dogs are not allowed loose with the chickens, but previously when I had some that were free ranging, believe it or not, the rottie ignored them, but the papillon was not allowed loose with them after he killed one that was about the same size he was, so it's all individual!

New Christmas ideas for my parents... HELP!

Hey Robin, I tried to reply to your e-mail about the juice of the crushed pineapple, but didn't see it in my sent box, so thought I would post the answer here - use the juice that is in the pineapple can.
