I had asked for advice on why my chickens weren't laying and someone suggested molting.
I'm not sure if all are but 1 or 2 are molting theres feathers everywhere. What does this mean in general and how does that effect egg laying?
my buff Orpington, Delaware & R.I Red haven't laid an egg in about 10 days. Yes its getting cooler, yes its getting dark earlier but I woudn't think that they would stop this early. They are about 2 1/2 years old. Is that contributing to them not laying as well? Ant ideas
i had the same problem and someone on here told me to do the following and it worked great.
fill a five gallon bucket with water and dunk her in it for a few seconds. it basically shocks her out of it.
I posted this yesterday but can't find the listing-wierd. Anyways I'm not exactly sure whats going on with my Rhode Island Red. She's been like this for a month now. Shes really swollen down in her underside region, poo seems to be draining out of her and is in her feathers, I think I feel an...
One of my Rhode Island Reds has had an issue for over a month now. She seems to be eating and drinking but has a hard time getting around and is in obvious discomfort. I asked about this and after many words of advice, I gave her several warm baths, massaged her, gave her olive oil orally and...
I asked for help with my possible eggbound chicken. A few people came back telling me to put a needleless syringe up her vent and squirt olive oil. One person said to do it on both sides once inside the vent. My question is how do I find the opening once inside the vent. I gently probed...
I posted the other day about my eggbound hen. I soaked her in a warm bath, massaged underside, put olive oil down her throat 3 days in a row. She seems a bit better in her energy and shes drinking and eating a bit. I even stuck my gloved finger up her but couldn't feel it.
Should I shoot...
From reading up on eggbound chickens, i'm pretty sure thats what's going on. she looks bloated, poop is running out of her and dried on her rear end, she isn't moving very much and she looks like she is constantly trying to go to the bathroom. I soaked her in warm water for around 20 minutes...
Hello. One of my Rhode Island Reds has what seems to be a tumor a little bigger than a golfball on her chest. Any ideas? What it may be? What I should do?
My Buff Orp. went broody last may and we indulged her by putting some fertilized eggs under her (we don't have a rooster). Now shes doing it again and we don't want any chicks. How can we stop this behavior?

Hello. My bantams are 1 month old and a few of them are really developing their combs. Is this a sign that they are roosters? I need to get rid of the roosters so the sooner I know the better.
Thanks,
Andrew
At what age should I be able to start figuring out who's a rooster or a hen?
What do I look for to figure this out.
8 of my chicks are Bantam and 2 are delaware-rhode is. mixes-ot sure if the type of chicken makes a difference.
I have 3 hens and I have 1 hen with 10 chicks that are 1 month old. They are separated with the chicks mostly only having access to starter. i want to put all the chickens together when I do this the chicks will have full access to the layer feed. At what age will this be ok for the chicks...
It's quite a chore keeping my chicks and their hen separate from the other hens. When can I let them betogether at which time the chicks will have access to the layer feed which I know they shouldn't have now.
