My husband and I are new to chickens. We were given 6 chicks about 2 months ago, and told they were white leghorns. Well it turns out that they're Cornish X. I know they don't usually live long bc of their rapid growth. They're 10 weeks old and doing great so far! Very friendly! My question is...
I just noticed my 3 week old chick missing some feathers on it's wing. Also when I picked up it's tail fell off! It had dried scab on it. Is if possible that it's being plucked? It's inside still with two others the same age. One of which is feisty! It seems otherwise healthy.
I did some reading up on them. A lot of them don't make it to laying because of their fast growth. Their hearts give out, like you said. Such a big disappointment because I've grown to like them. VERY friendly. They free range from morning until dark, and only get a few handfuls of feed when...
I just got my first set of chickens three weeks ago. They're 6 week old leghorns and are in the coop at night. Free range during the day. I'm just wondering what are some ways (if any) to prevent mites in the coop. Thanks! :)
I will! I guess they're probably just mixes. I'm excited to see what they will look like. Here's two more pics of the other one. There's actually two of these. :)
Thank you. I will post more. :) I'm not sure what they are. My mother in law kept hearing them near her house. When she found them these were the only ones still alive. Im just trying to get an idea of they might be.
I got it and five others from a friend my husband works with about 3 weeks ago. He said they're leghorns. All the others feathers have come in beautiful. This one is the odd ball. Sometimes his/her (I think he) butt looks very red too.
