I just did this. I introduced 2 young pullets (polish and a blue cochin) to my 6 adult hens. I would bring the 2 little one's out in the common area and let them run around with the big girls while under adult supervision. At night they'd go to their separate coops/cages. I did this for a few...
welcome to the wonderful world of broodom
I am also relatively new to chickens and one of mine has gone broody as well. It's been 3 weeks now and she's still a growling possessed wee little girl that only looks like her former self. :|
I'd like to know too! Actually I have a mille fleur roo that is relatively quiet. He seems to crow more when folks are around versus when they aren't. He also doesn't start early which is nice!
MONTHS?
Would it be okay to take her out of the coop from the others to put her in a separate cage? I worry though about the rest of the girls picking on her when I put her back.
I have 6 hens and 1 little roo. Oreo, my birchen bantam cochin has decided she wants to hatch everyone's eggs. I get about 5 a day. Every day I take them away as I cannot have anymore chicks. I have 2 in my house as it is and my husband has announced he's not building another coop. So giving...
my little mille fleur roo grabs the top of the head of my dorking hen. She's going bald where he grabs her. He also grabs her comb. My bantam birchen cochin is also bald where he grabs her.
Anyone else having the issue of chicks eating the shavings? I want to put mine on shavings as they are 10 days old but everytime I try, the eat the shavings. I assume this is bad.
I posted a bit ago about crosses as I wanted to hatch a chick from my recently deceased Speckled Sussex. My roo is a mille fleur so it would of been interesting had it worked. Well, what did hatch were 2 white crested black polish/mille fleur chicks, 1 ameracuana/mille fleur chick and 1...
I have 2 polish mixed in with the rest that you can see in my signature line. The buff laced polish's crest grows around her eyes like a sheep dog. I have her crest in a ponytail so she can see. Let me tell you, it made all the difference in the world when it came to her being more assured of...
Well, if you look at my signature- I have all of those breed all together minus the SS as I lost her to a hawk. All do very well but all of my breeds are really docile so that might help.
Well if any of the eggs become chicks, I'll post pics. We are hatching out cuckoo marans that are PB from another friend but the one's that are intriguing are the mixes b/c it's like "surprise"
Nope, no plans on anything other than enjoying my girls. This forum is addictive. I have now found myself wanting a blue chicken I have seen those splash, blue, lavendar orps and now I *want* one! I think there should be a Chickens Anonymous as I for one have found them most addicting!
