Would you keep a mean chicken?

I had a couple of chickens (larger) that picked incessantly at a smaller older one. At around that time I was learning about homeopathics, so I decided to put some Bach Remedy "Rescue Remedy" in the water container. The next day the older Americauna hen laid an egg and pretty much laid 5-6 a...

    Feeding schedule and questions

Access to water is key. One guy explained to me that not giving them water at any time they want is like abuse. If you are worried about pests, the setup that was in my coop when I bought the property is to suspend the feeder from a wire from the ceiling at a height that only a hen could reach...

    Feeding schedule and questions

I thought about just giving them all the feed they want, but have opted to restrict it, as the birds have the full run of the yard and can eat grubs, worms, and grass all day. I was told by the guy I bought the chickens from that if you feed them more they will just eat more. I am of the camp...

Rescue Remedy - Bach Flower Remedies

Gotta tell you this story! I have 4 hens, 3 different breeds. The two largest pick on the smaller ones in the usual ways and the oldest one seems to have been traumatized to the point where she basically hadn't laid an egg in months and even then maybe only a half dozen in the last year. So...

Tips of feathers on head turning white/grey

One chicken seems to have less feathers on her neck and so she looks a bit sick. Also the tips of the feathers on her head are turning grey or white. Any thoughts on what is happening? It is an Americauna and about 1.5 years old hen. It is about 10 Celcius 50F here at night and probably 15 C...

    Washing my chicken

One of my chickens had some sort of diarrhea at some point and so has residue on her backside feathers. I notice that there seems to be a runny black spots in the coop below the perch where they sleep and I notice an area of feathers missing more towards the sides, so I would like to wash off...

HELP! My EE isn't laying anymore :(

What are the options beside antibiotics. A friend who raises pigeons uses his Rife device to treat his racing pigeons. I consider antibiotics as the hotel of last resort. Another option is hydrogen peroxide in the water... a drop or two in 2 litres.

HELP! My EE isn't laying anymore :(

One of mine is broody and the other one seems to be taking the sabbattical. If they have an infection as you mentioned what do you do about it ? What is it called? I notice that sometimes the poop is watery and greenish. I sometimes put a drop of hydrogen peroxide in the water for infections.

    Grey dust on an egg

One of my two black Americaunus chickens are just starting to lay. There is only one laying as far as I can guess. Probably the 6th egg has a light grey dust on it. I looked at it with an eyepeice and the grey looks like dust but I am new at this. Does this sound like a problem? It is the...
