I have read and seen with my own chickens that the more outside grass and bugs they eat the darker the yoke. Maybe with the cold weather they aren't getting as much green vegitation as they were before. Hope that helps.

Just looked at the picture. I'm no expert, but looks like a rooster to me. On the bright side you could have your own baby chicks next spring!

I'm not sure what hatcher they used, but I think your right that most of them are roosters. I know of two for sure they have started crowing. Also, they seem very agressive compared to the RIRs.
