Anyone feeding chickens without any corn?

Thanks for the interesting info regarding "old fashioned feeds" that don't include corn. I am considering making my own because even the no corn no soy feeds contain fish. I believe most of our fish are contaminated. I happen to enjoy fallout from fukashima.

    Losing feathers

My Chicken is having her first molt and has lost about 1/3 of her feathers. Is it the molt? Is it the other chickens? Is it a health problem? Chicken is acting normal otherwise. I did notice a bit of picking by the chicken on the roost next to her. The top of her legs are bare. I can see the...

Hindsight is 20-20: Organic versus medicated chick feed.

I am in NW Oregon and I am looking for recommendations on Union Mills because the guy I have been buying my feed from is not ordering Chicken feed anymore (Heinold which I think is from the mid west). I don't want organic if I can get a good quality local feed. I have a small feed store near my...

Bobcat attack and the resulting fallout

Thanks for the info and support! I tried to rest on the couch this pm with a window cracked so I could hear more. When it was almost dark, I looked out the window and saw a hen heading to the coop. I dashed out to find everyone in except rooster ("W") and one hen. there is one hen that hangs...

Bobcat attack and the resulting fallout

I lost 3 chickens yesterday in the afternoon. It had to have been before dark. My rooster "W" is very thorough about getting his girls in on time. The disturbance which included feathers and 2 bodies was all outside. When I went to the coop after work (I work swing shift) there were exactly 3...

Clipping the wings to prevent flight

Regarding their ability to get high in the coop: They are getting to cross beam near ceiling in coop but they have several ways to hop and flap from one level to the next to get there. Each level is about 2-3 feet from the other. I guess my post is general for both of you. Thanks for the...

Clipping the wings to prevent flight

I trimmed one wing of each chicken and it seems like they can still get to elevated areas in the coop. Did I trim them enough? how much will they fly if properly trimmed? I just did not want to make them bleed. I have heard that can be deadly.

    Electrified Chicken netting

Has anyone used something called Electro Net (I think I have the name correct)? Basically it is electrified chicken fencing. It is hooked together like field fencing but closer together for chickens and it has electricity flowing through all the horizontal wires which are close together. I comes...

    Coccidia... anyone else having problems?

Hi I am new. My chicks are about 16 weeks. The last time I had chickens I did not worm. Was I lucky? How often do they need to be wormed? Do they need it regularly like a dog or a cat or do they just need worming when they are showing signs of worms?
