Thanks. I've tried to research it and I can't tell if I got shrink wrapped or sticky chicks....I've rigged up all kinds of contraptions to add water without opening. I've got a plastic tube with a syringe on the end so I can add water and I use another tube/syringe to wet additional sponges/lids...
We'll the eggs started hatching on Friday night/Early Saturday. I have a few in the incubator still, but I don't think they are going to hatch. When I was candling, I didn't see any difference between the washed eggs and the non-washed eggs, but I haven't been able to get a final look to see...
I might end up washing those eggs and not washing the others that didn't get egg on them. I thought about the fact they will probably smell horrible later after being in the incubator unwashed. I'll probably just wash them with water and nothing else. Glad to here that there is hope! lol
I ordered eggs off ebay because I couldn't find the ones I wanted locally. They arrived today. They were shipped/packaged well, however all the eggs were individually wrapped in paper towels, and put back in the egg carton. One carton is perfect. The other carton had 5 broken eggs. The problem...
Good luck with the hatch :) We came home to one dead chick today :( I'm not sure what happened. It looked fine and it was fine this morning. It was just laying by the food, like it was asleep. Everyone else looks healthy and it looked healthy too, so I don't know. Hopefully everyone else will...
I don't know why, but I'm on an incubator kick! I don't have any hens big enough to lay. I just love watching the eggs develop! I order a batch of turken, frizzles and all other sorts of crazy looking chickens off ebay for the next go round I hope some of them will hatch. It will be my first...
Okay, so this is the breed they are supposed to be! lol I have to dig through old postings to see what they are supposed to be I know there is one feather legged Bantam. I am pretty sure there are some production reds and ameraucana's. The rest have me confused. I think I'm getting addicted to...
Here's the pics :) Husband dumped out the incubator...THREE eggs were left. A small egg was stuck inside another broken egg shell. It's chick was half way formed, another was half way formed and the other just never pipped :(
Thanks! Yeah, I ended up taking them out early because there were so many! I think the grand total that hatched this time was 40!!!!! (39 or 40, they moved to much and I can't remember exactly how many went to lock down, I think 42). I only have 2 that haven't hatched so far (don't think they...
Today is day 21 of my 2nd hatch this year and wow, there are chicks everywhere! Some hatched yesterday and some are still hatching now :) There are so many chicks in the incubator, that I'm having a hard time telling what has/hasn't hatched. I'm a little worried though, because the eggs that are...
Just candled the eggs. Ten days in, out of 46 eggs, I removed 3 quitters. As of right now, it looks like we have 43 good eggs!! Wow! I'm so excited. In most of the eggs, you could see the little itty bitty chick moving around :) There were a few I couldn't tell if they were moving or not, but...
That's good to know! Hopefully at least a few will hatch :)
The ebay listing says: flock includes Ameraucana (Aracuna), Bantam (Feather Legged and Standard), Barred Rock, Black Australorp, Black Langshan, Buff Orpington, California White, Copper Maran, Gold Sex Link, Iowa Blue, Production...
I'm starting over today with a new batch of eggs. It's fully loaded and I just started them (almost exactly one month later after I started the other batch that failed miserably). This batch includes eggs from the same guy I got them from as well as a dozen of mixed eggs from Ebay. I'm not too...
Oh, cute chicks!
And thanks for the feedback everyone :)
Okay, so my husband and I candled last night. Out of the 33 that were left about 15 of them were either clear looking, like infertile or they either died at around day 10 or so, based on what I saw when I looked at day by day candling...
I kept the humidity at around 45-50% (tried for 50, but it kept dropping down around 45 while I was away at work daily) for the first 18 days, then I tried to go around 70 - 80% for the end, but the highest I could ever get it was 76% and that was shortly after the chicks that did hatch...
Thank you! :) My kids are obsessed with them. Still no other signs of pips/chicks. I have an issue where I can't seem to keep the humidity up lately! I don't know what's going on. I am trying to avoid opening the incubator, but the humidity seems to keep dropping. I have filled all the cavities...
