When & How to Introduce a new member to the flock

One last question, my other option for this weekend is to put the Leghorn in one of the pens for the weekend. The other 3 will be fine together and they can stay in the coop until someone can let them run around for a while. I usually have a neighbor come over and check for eggs and he lets them...

When & How to Introduce a new member to the flock

right now I have separated the 2 smaller ones, which is interesting bc they were the most aggressive. So the new Leghorn is in the yard with the Red Sex Link. The red seems a bit confused and irritated that they other girls are not there. But she also is not attaching the Leghorn.Maybe this will...

When & How to Introduce a new member to the flock

Well these girls keep me on my toes. I have been allowing each chicken to spend "one on one" time with the Leghorn this week to see how they behave. And the Red Sex Link actually does not pay much attention to the Leghorn when they are by themselves (out of the coop). The Yokohama mix will run...

When & How to Introduce a new member to the flock

Thank you for that input Mrs K! I have not been on the forum for a bit.Yes, our issue is space. We just introduced a Leghorn of the same age to the flock yesterday. My Red Sex Link is the leader, and she is being quite the bully. It it logical to get rid of the 2 ornamental birds. But we can't...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Soooo sad about this gravity feed situation! :( We like to go camping twice a year for about a week. My neighbor is scared of chickens too, so I can't count on her to feed them daily. Although, bless her heart she tried her best the last time we left town. We do have hanging feeders, we...

When & How to Introduce a new member to the flock

I posted this in another thread about introducing new chickens, but it was recommended I start a new thread. Looking for some input, thank you :) "We currently have 3 chickens who are about 6 months old. When we got them they were 2 weeks old and we didn't know the sex or breed. Now we know...

Introducing new chickens to the flock

Hi I saw this post about integrating new chickens to a flock and I too am looking for some input on this topic. We currently have 3 chickens who are about 6 months old. When we got them they were 2 weeks old and we didn't know the sex or breed. Now we know one is a Red sex link, she is laying...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Question about automatic gravity chicken feeders in FL. We built one out of PVC while the girls were on "grower" feed. I think we installed it in June or July. There was enough feed in there to feed them for one week. Well, I noticed the the feed wouldn't fall through the PVC well. But if I...

What type of Chickens are these two?

Just realized that our white bird, the suspected Yokohama can't be one b/c of the comb type. The Yokohama's have a walnut comb and this one does not.

What type of Chickens are these two?

Well our possible Yokohama started to squat today! I don't know if Roo's do that, but I know pullets do before they lay!

What type of Chickens are these two?

What type of Chickens are these two?

What color are the sex links when they are chicks? This is the big red when she was a chick, about 2 weeks old here.

What type of Chickens are these two?

Thanks for the input :) I am not sure where they came from at all actually. I got them from a farm that "rescues" animals. The farm owner knew I was looking for chickens, and when someone dropped off 3 chicks, she called me :) They were a bad idea of an Easter Present. We do have a Tractor...

What type of Chickens are these two?

It was suggested that the red one was a New Hampshire Red, and from what I can find online, I would agree. She is already laying eggs! Here are her pics (at least we know she is a she!)

What type of Chickens are these two?

So here are the latest pics of the white one: Long tail, blue irredecent feather spots (don't know what to call them) right below the ear drums. Starting to grow a more prominate comb and looks like starting on a waddle. (sorry for my spelling errors) you have to really scroll in to get a good...

What type of Chickens are these two?

Updated pictures: we still don't know this one's breed. Lots of suggestions, even the possibility of it being a pullet of a long tail breed.
