Looks like one of these to me (just throwing in a guess based on what we get around here, I'm not much of an expert :) )
He is absolutely stunning, whatever breed he may be

Thanks everyone, I was so excited! I got home from my weekly two days business trip to a very proud boyfriend. It must have taken her completely by surprise because it was just sitting in front of the feeder, he almost stepped on it!
Today I got a very slightly bigger one in their house, she...
Well I'm very proud to say that I can answer that question at last with a picture of my teeny tiny (with a teaspoon for scale), a little dirty very hard shelled FIRST EGG!
Quick update, the girls are hitting their 25th week this weekend and...I got a couple of squats from Jackie today! :D I'm soooo excited!!!
Come on girl!
Thanks Cat and Mel, a friend of ours calls the girls Beauty and the Clown, I think it rather suits them :) And Moriahw those fluff balls <3
Cat you are one lucky girl, summer holidays already! And are those ameraucanas in your profile pic? They kind of look like our Faverolles hens...
MB : yep...
Hi Sarah!
I've got a rescue dobie too, got him when he was 3, he's now going on for 9 and still acts like a silly little puppy.
Dobermans are very strong willed dogs, mine has a strong predator drive, but an even stronger will to please those he loves, family and friends included.
The first...
Easter eggers (I think its a vastly used term accross the atlantic) are chickens that have the blue egg gene, but can't be classified as pure breed. So any mix of ameraucan or araucana would be an Easter egger. :)
Basically (or so I'm told, I don't have much experience) all cuckoo breeds are autosexable if the roo used for breeding is homozygous (much lighter in colour). Here marans roos have to be homozygous to conform to standard, so almost all marans chicks are autosexable.
Other than the cuckoos from...
@Dandelion : Wow! How old were they when you got them, that must have been a heck of a long wait, but worth the while now ;)
@Melabella : thanks, I'm glad that I'm not the only one dancing on their toes with anticipation here :P
Her breed is actually one of the most common ones around here...
@Eowyn : lucky you, lots of beautiful brown eggs, though cuckoo marans roos are stunning too :)
@Pinkaboo : I had a chat with a Marans breeder the other day and basically : well defined light spot = roo, no spot = pullet, not so clear spot or fuzzy around the edges = one or the other.

OK thanks for the info Donrae ;). I guess the bumps are smoother, but I only thought that it was because her comb is smaller than her buddies one.
I read up on the BYC article on combs, but still am a bit puzzled. Here are a few close(r)-ups, what do you think?
It looks like the gold...
Hi Donrae!
I'm currently living in the same country my chooks come from, the land of cheese, wine and garlic!
What sort of comb does my cuckoo have? A small one? A pinkish one? Honestly I'm feeling a bit silly, but I don't know how to tell what a straight comb is at this point... I'll just...
Hi Catsol!
She is a beautiful girl, but not half as stunning as your Turkey, that picture is just precious! She isn't Andalusian though, a bit further north, French limousine blue ("poule bleue du limousin" or "poule bleue de France").
7 months will be nerve racking, she's our first girl...
Thanks Bantamlover!
It's a loose translation really, they call them "bleue de France" or "bleue du Limousin", Jackie is blue with a black and red strewn hood (she's a real stunner) they're supposed to be good layers and brooders, with 2 ounce white-pinkish eggs.
I thought that Tuning might...
Hi everyone!
I'm new to chickens, and got my first two girls just over two weeks ago, so sorry if the questions seem silly.
I'd love you guys to help me with their full ID, I'm almost sure that the breeder we got them from wasn't quite honest with us (but whatever, we love our girls, it's just...
Dawwww look at all those lovely chicks! I wish/can't wait until I get to that stage with my ladies...
For the time being we're waiting for the first egg from our girls, and our blue one in particular, the cuckoo looks a bit further away from that stage for the time being, so I'm not expecting...
Thanks Twocrows, don't worry, he's only allowed around them under good escort and has got a big sturdy homemade gate to keep him away from them when we're not around...
