Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

What does POL mean and FF. I guess I just haven't seen those abbreviations before and I'm semi-new at this also.

Hello sssharon!

I am sorry I haven't been checking in as much! So happy to have you post here, and welcome!!!

POL means point of lay, the age your pullet is when she starts to give us those eggs we wait on! FF stands for Fermented Feed. It is a popular way of preparing your feed that is has many health benefits. I have always wanted to give it a go,, but just haven't got around to it. There is a ton of information on here about it if you just put fermented feed into the forum search box.

Here is a short cut to a popular thread about FF
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/644300/fermenting-feed-for-meat-birds

How many chickens do you have? What kinds? Have you gotten any eggs yet? The way you post pictures is to press the little square button, (in the same box where the smiley face is) up top above where you type. It is the left button in the box, and it is a little landscape looking square. Follow the prompts after you press that on how to either download a picture or use one of your personal photos.

Welcome to the egg waitin thread... happy to have you!

Thanks for getting back to me. I have 3 brown leghorns and I got them when they were a year old. I usually get 2 eggs a day and maybe 3. Someone gets lazy on me. I also have 4 New Hampshire pullets and they are 11 weeks. I was told they were all girls so we'll see. I also have one Speckled Sussex. And then I have 3 who knows what? I think they call them muts. Their father could be a Americauna and mother Rhode Island Red. Each chick I hatched is different. One looks like it end up looking like a Barred Rock and one is almost white. Hard to tell with all the fuzz. She or he is really feathering slow. The other looks like it could actually look like a Rhode Island Red. There is my group. I also 9 in the incubator that I am going to hopefully get lots of babies. I'm giving to my grandsons who lost most of their chickens to a lousy fox. Wish me luck on the newbies. They will be down to the lockdown tomorrow. I'm so excited!!!! I found out the POL after I posted and never found out what FF was until you responded. Thanks so much.

Oh you must tell us what you get! I have been learning to hatch myself. I have a small incubator, and have done two hatches so far.. Got 4 chicks from each hatch. I have some Swedish Flower Hen eggs in there now, but am only on Day 2. Can't wait to hear how your hatch goes!

Well that's great if you got 4 both times. This my second time and I only got 3 the first time. I started with 18 eggs and had to throw 9 out and then I had 9 left and wasn't sure about them but anyway ended up with the three. They are sure funny chicks. They are almost 5 weeks. I will let you know for sure about what I get. I could see one moving the last 2 times I candled and it was really moving a lot tonight. These are my grandsons eggs. Im pretty sure about 8 of them and kept the 9th one just in case. I really hope I get a few more this time. I'm hoping the father is a Polish white crested they have. They make cute chicks mixed with a brown Leghorn and that's what they have that lay white eggs. I'm crossing my fingers.I'll keep in touch. It might have been fathered by an Americauna also, who knows.

Morning everyone.... Sorry that I have been busy... Trying to get things done in time for this Sunday. We are having a small gathering here... a taste test between raised birds and store bought birds;) Unfortunately it means that today is the last day for a few birds. A few un-wanted roosters. I had also decided to get rid of both of my Roos.... I had wanted to keep the Blue Andalusian, but he has gone after my Mom just one time to many. He won't do that to me but her.... He is a hatchery bird, he is not show quality, and a little aggressive.... I think anyone will just do the same and at least here I am sure we will do it right. A friend and her husband are coming over later to help me process all the boys. I have 2 and a friend gave me two more roos last night for the party. I will let you know how things go... At least it should all be delicious...but sad...
Yes Discodog... Those two in my avatar pic are my Americanas, Matilda and Betty. They are my two oldest girls... After a dog attach got most of my flock... they stayed in my bathroom for a few days.... weeks:)....(it is a very large open bathroom that opens into my bedroom) I would take them to the run during the day but bring them in at night.... even after I had reinforced their home. I have some cute pics of them on our shoulders that I had not posted... and one of Matilda looking at the Christmas tree... It was a sad time.. But we are very happy to have them. Now I have 11 girls and 1 turkey hen. Turkey Tia had also survived... but she was badly injured at that time. She is doing great now. And at least I think I will try again. She is still broodie and so is one of my Cuckoo Marans... I think I will give them both eggs and see what will happen this time with no roos to upset everyone. I think I have time after the Roos are gone when I still have fertile eggs...
I am hoping you will post pics Sssharon.... I so want to see your chicks. It is post like yours and Melabell's that make me want to try and hatch;)

I would love to post some pictures! I've been looking and can't see where I post them. Can you give me some help? I think Melabella told me how but I couldn't find what she was talking about. My chicks are real cute! I have two black ones and I'm just sure that their father is a bantam Polish white crested rooster. Could a white Americana or another white rooster produce black chicks? I really hope it's the first choice. The Polish rooster Kingston would make cute babies. I don't think my grandson's have any other black chickens. I'm going to wait until tomorrow or maybe the next day and see if the 4 that are left do anything.

So far 5 of my eggs have hatched and they are very cute, healthy birds. Two of them are black and 3 of them are kind of a buff mix. I saw a picture on the internet and it said Henrietta Easter egger. The first batch of eggs I hatched looked like the easter egger except one that was white. I think this group might look like them. To soon to tell. I'm hoping the black chicks are from a Polish white crested rooster. He's the only black rooster and the only black chicken period. If so I do so hope one of the black chicks is a female. The egg I thought would hatch for sure has done nothing. I know I saw it moving when I candled it so maybe something happened. I don't know. That's it so far anyway. Let you know if I have any more.

Never heard of her breed either.  What color eggs do they lay?

Well I'm very proud to say that I can answer that question at last with a picture of my teeny tiny (with a teaspoon for scale), a little dirty very hard shelled FIRST EGG!
